Gaudreau was drafted 12 years ago. Tkachuk and Fox 7 years ago. All 3 of these guys are a full year removed. Who have they drafted in the last 7 drafts to support a claim that they draft well? Using your logic Pittsburgh must be the best drafting team. 3 Cup champs on the roster from the 2004 and 2005 drafts. Draft well is a hard thing to describe… is it about hitting/churning out superstars or does churning out solid NHLers get you there? I’m not saying Calgary has done either but drafting well is all relative to what you have for picks and where you consistently pick IMO. Valimaki had a nice season albeit not in Calgary but he was a 1st round pick. Ruzicka looks like he can be a solid top 9 guy based on last year, if he can play a full season he was a 4th rounder. Dustin Wolf has proven nothing but I think he’s a really good pick for a 7th rounder. I think Jakob Pelletier is an NHLer and they grabbed him with a late 1st. Jeremie Poirier had a very successful 1st season in the AHL and they got him with a 3rd. Yan Kuznetsov is the same deal as Poirier, only they took him with a 2nd. Conor Zary another late 1st pick from the 2020 draft appears to be knocking on the door of the NHL. Matt Coronato was a lottery pick but he he’s had 2 successful seasons at Harvard and likely isn’t far off from being an NHL player. Now I’ve picked out 8 names of the 31 they drafted, some not established NHLers, some may never become that but is 8 of 31 guys with legitimate NHL potential bad? Now a lot of names you can write off, we know they’ll never amount to anything but that’s going to be common around the league. Anything from 2020-2022 is too soon to make any judgment on, probably the same with 2019 if we’re being fair. The only drafts I think you can really make a judgment on since the Tkachuk draft is 2017 and 2018, those guys are probably NHLers by now or likely never will be impact ones. Coronato should be the best of the bunch but where would he, Zane, Pelletier, Wolf stand up around other teams who were building young cores at the same time? Unless Wolf really keeps developing I don't think there's a top end guy in that mix. If I tried saying Toronto drafts well and used Woll and Knies on the crutch of well 12/14/15/16 was Reilly/Nylander/Marner/Matthews and they're all here and may have even exceeded many expectations on a personal level I don't think i'd get the same reaction that they've drafted well. Then we'd hear "but they were lottery picks".

Coronato Zary Wolf and Pelletier look like very good picks, but all are quite recent and Sutter is notorious for not trusting kids. Those are 2019-2021 picks. 2017 and 2018 they only had one top 3 pick, Valimaki who put up 34 points in Arizona last year. 2016 they drafted Tkachuk Fox and Dube in the top 3 rounds, I would call that a pretty big success. 2015 they got Magiapane Andersson and Kylington despite having no 1st rounder When evaluating darft picks, you have to start 3-4 years back as non top 5-10 picks usually only make the NHL full time at 22-23 years old. Zary is a very good pick? I'll just take your word for it. You're just using subjective terms with no real meaning. Very good to me would indicate that you'd have them as a top 10 prospect base or at least top 16. I don't see it. Zary was a 24th OA pick and on pace for 65 points at 21 ion the AHL. Good prospect, not great prospect. We will see in 2-3 years. It's all relative to where teams draft and how many picks, Calgary has been mostly mid pack to upper tier for 5-6 years. Last 5 top picks...59th 13t 24th 26th 105th. Hard to compare that with NJ who has had 3 top 10 picks and multiple 1st in 2020 & 2021.

Word is PLD going to LA for Iafallo and Vilardi...if that's the case, glad the habs didn't match, meant like Dach plus a guy like Harris or Barron.
Vilardi was on a 54 point pace and Iafallo 50.
Apparently the hold up is getting PLD signed long term.
Phillie had a couple of deals that hit snags...Hayes(with retention) to St.Louis with Krug coming back in a package, however Krug would not waive his NTC. hayes has 3 more years left at 7.142M.
They also a had a deal lined up sending DeAngelo back to Carolina(1 year left at 5M), remains to be seen if it happens.

Hayes will be in St Louis..... the snag is Krug won't waive his NTC to go to Philly so they are trying to get a third team involved
If it grinds to a halt it will be a salary dump deal..... Sanheim is linked to be the main piece involved in the deal for the Blues ... Hayes is just a dump

hopefully some of these moves get approved soon..... could be a very active week once the balls get rolling
quiet little lowkey addition over the weekend.. Colorado got Ryan Johansen for Alex Galchenyuk.... could see Johansen bounce back bigtime in that market with better linemates

He never really lived up to billing in Nash.

Frank Seravalli @frank_seravalli Hearing #NHLBruins are working on a deal that will include sending Taylor Hall to Chicago. Waiting on more details.
Boston dumping 6M, wonder if they are adding anything so Chicago takers the whole cap hit. It could be adding a veteran linemate for Bedard.

Clearing space to resign Bertuzzi A good landing spot for a cap retained Krug as well With only 6 NHL forwards signed and only 10.9M cap room, I think the rest of their cap room will be on forwards.

3 years from now when he is whining that he only wants to play in Montreal the Habs can trade a second rounder for him with 50% salary retained

While i'm glad we didn't win the sweepstakes......... i am gonna say this is a good deal for LA.. even if Dubois remains what he basically has shown to be thus far
quite a center lineup with Kopitar, Dubois, Danault
