Since we have four guys at camp right now I figured I’d make a thread to discuss World Junior possibilities and other stuff.
Scott Wheeler from the Athletic had this to say on X (Twitter)
“After the 2nd group went off (practice) one goaltender, three defenders, and three forwards stayed out for Power Play Patterns, those being Jake Furlong, Jordan Dumais, Mathis Rousseau, Tristan Luneau, Maverick Lamoureaux, Matthew Savoie, and Macklin Celebrini.”
Jake Furlong and Maverick Lamoureaux were the 2nd D Pairing in Group 2, Dumais was the first line right wing along side Celebrini and Rehkopf, then over in Group 1 Vidicek was the last center with Denver Barkey on his wing.
To me it sounds like they are giving Furlong a strong look early on. We’ll see how the scrimmage goes tomorrow.

The fringe players tend to play more in camp. The guys that are locks get more rest, as there's no sense running them out there too often and getting them gassed before the tournament even begins.
I think Dumais is as close to a lock as you can get without being 100%. I think Rousseau makes the team... he'll be fighting for the #1 job. Vidicek is an interesting one. He could play down in the lineup and have success. Good penalty killer, good face-off guy. Can play higher if need be. He's 50/50 for me. Furlong is more of a long shot. Very steady but I think you need more of an offensive threat from your defense in this tournament.
My guess is Dumais and Rousseau make the team.

1-1 after first period Quiet period for the first line not a lot of flow to the game everyone seems to be feeling each other out . Rousseau in nets holding his own he got caught out of his net on the first goal not a lot of shots .

I voted two. Dumais and Rousseau will make it.
I think Vidicek will surprise at camp, but in the end, will get cut. He's undrafted with no Canadian International experience. As much as I wish those things didn't hold the weight they do, reality is they mean a lot.
Furlong is steady, reliable, but I don't see him making it unfortunately.

I think all 4 of them are going to make it,
Rousseau- It has been said he could be Canada's number 1 goaltender Dumais- Will make it because Canada likes their 19 year old's Vidicek-Made a case for himself last weekend with his hat trick, but we shall see these are the best Junior players in the world Furlong-If he plays tomorrow like he did today, guess we'll know by the game tomorrow night as I read all 4 of them would be leaving for Pre-Touranment in Sweden Thursday.

Mark Edwards from Hockey Prospect has Furlong making the team and Vidicek/Dumais both being cut. hockeyprospect.com/2024-iihf-world-junior-championship-team-canada-selection-camp-part-deux/He explained briefly in the blog yesterday that Dumais' skating is good, but not good enough at this level. That combined with him being smaller puts him at a disadvantage when playing bigger, stronger, faster players. Nothing we haven't heard before, but it's a fact that has followed Dumais for his whole junior career. Would you not have him as at least the 13th forward and use him on the power play? He gets points. He has elite vision and makes everyone out there a threat to score. There comes a point where you take the good with the bad and give him a shot in my opinion. Hope he makes it but wouldn't be surprised if he didn't after hearing a good scout's take. Cuts should come late this afternoon.

There isn’t that go to guy on this team like last year to score goals I really believe they need a guy like Dumais that can score but better still put the puck on a guy stick like no one else he makes everyone around him score .Like you say 13 th forward and play power plays .

Dumais removed from game after setting up goal apparently for precautionary purposes sounds like he has made the team .

Dumais removed from game after setting up goal apparently for precautionary purposes sounds like he has made the team . I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. Although I did smile at the visual of him setting up a goal and the front off staff being like "YES HE'S ON THE TEAM GET HIM OFF THE ICE QUICK". This is an exhibition and two additional periods of play isn't going to sway opinions that much. If Dumais tweaked something it would be irresponsible of them to let him continue, whether he's made the team or not.

Scott Wheeler is a pretty good source. I don't want to flip flop for a 3rd time, but take his tweet for what it's worth.
One thing to note is that Dumais' skating isn't elite anyway, and a nagging hip flexor injury would hurt that even more. Moose fans think hip flexor and immediately think of Trey Lewis, Ryan Falkenham and Ostap Safin (am I right with that one?). Hip Flexor injuries have varying degrees of seriousness, but Halifax hasn't been too lucky with them in recent history.
