that loss to Germany really changed Finland the rest of the way, they're determined. Sisu. We live and die as one. It's in our history. From Stalin and Hitler trying to take us to underdog status in any tournament. We're resilient people who aren't afraid to rise up to the challenge. They also have a huge chip on their shoulder from the missed call in the quarters last year in Moncton.

wow, a Rousseau-esq quality save for the Americans. Great game. US v. Sweden will be fun

Again two horrible calls to get the Americans back into it and into control.
I can't wait until the tournament is over and hopefully the IIHF sends these clowns back to the circus.
Oh well, hopefully the impossible happens and both teams lose the finals.

It is always tough to evaluate players like Furlong since not being noticed means they're doing things right. Mitchell Brown and Lassi Alanen make these player cards from manually tracking player data and I found this interesting.
I know he exceeded expectations in that he wasn't even expected to make the team in the first place, but... WHOA.

Exceeded whose expectations? And who expected him not to make team?

Exceeded whose expectations? And who expected him not to make team? Most people outside of Halifax have never even heard the name Jake Furlong. And if it wasn't for the two defenseman going down early he probably wouldn't have had a role on the team.

What two defence went down early? I thought team was named and then two D went down?

What two defence went down early? I thought team was named and then two D went down? You are correct- he was named and then Tristan Luneau and Tanner Molendyk both went down once they were in Sweden. Those two being unavailable pushed him up the depth chart in responsibility. I'm more talking about predictions from literally everyone in the greater scouting community from before camp. Even after he made the roster out of camp (a shock to most who didn't watch), most projected lineups had him at 6th/7th defenseman. I'd say jumping from long shot to make the roster->6/7th d->3rd defenseman logging 20 minutes per game all tournament is exceeding expectations. I believed he could have a performance like this if given the chance, I just didn't think he would ever get the opportunity. Team Canada has a lot of talent to chose from every year, even this "down" year, so odds were long. I'm ecstatic at the results.
