Yah 17yo Celebrini was leading the tournament in scoring before today. He isn't the problem. Canada is being hemmed in their own zone and can't get any sustained offense going themselves. If they're MO is hard work, they have to be first to pucks and get the puck down the other end of the ice.

some sloppy defensive play from Canada. Left Rousseau high and dry. Celebrini is over rated. Celebrini is incredible, and will be great. He is of that McDavid/MacKinnon explosive style. Sweden have been better at both ends. They are passing it well, and Canada are not. Stronger looking at the end of 2, hope they build on that. Sweden are strong.

And I think this needs to be noted on here for some, which should be common sense. You know what they say about common sense.

it was just my opinion after hearing about him non-spot on tsn. Plus I was frustrated that Sweden scored. I beg forgiveness from everyone.

Per usual, Macklin Celebrini was one of the only Canadian players to get the more dangerous chances. His ice time is way up too, especially in the 3rd which makes sense. Put the most impactful player on the ice as much as possible for generating chances. I am begging Alan Letang to put him back with Dumais. The chemistry on the first line (among others) is noticeably off. For other teams, they could get away with it, but not here.
Seems Furlong has gained the trust of the coaching staff, as seen by his temporary jump to top pairing when Mateychuk was briefly unavailable and his ice time reaching almost 20 minutes. Seemed almost like he was given the task of specifically handling fellow baby sharks Filip Bystedt and Mattias Hävelid (who he has paired with in dev camp scrimmages), and both were held without a point after putting up great performances in Sweden's first two games.
Amazing goaltending effort from Rousseau, but Team Sweden showed why their blue line is considered the best in the tournament on both sides of the ice. Nothing was getting through that defensive clinic, and if they somehow do, Hugo Hävelid is not easily beat. No shame in losing to Sweden on its A-game in the prelims this year.
I'm not surprised by this result, especially considering how Canada beat Finland- capitalizing on their mistakes. Tough to do that when Sweden doesn't make many without having backup plans for their backup plans. Kudos to penalty kill (mostly Rousseau) for shutting their power play down at least.

x.com/scottcwheeler/status/1740845270953611684?s=46&t=zBswJ5lPF87_JxTQZthXcwIce time was interesting yesterday, Rehkopf gets a breakaway chance and almost scores but because of a couple turnovers he’s benched. New lines at practice today, off day then play Germany tomorrow. Geekie | Poitras | Yager Minten | Celebrini | Dumais Cowan | Beck | Danielson Rehkopf | Allard | Wood Absent: Savoie Hopefully Dumais can start finding the score sheet, I liked that line he’s on now during pre tourny action, wasn’t sure why they changed it.

That line did look good in the pre tournament games but honestly, Dumais has basically no presence on this ice size at this level from what I’ve watched in the group play. The only time I even realize he’s on the ice is when the commentators say his name or he turns it over. Sure there’s been a couple nice passes, I think I just expected more.

I completely disagree with your assessment, Dumais is generating a ton of chances but it seems like nothing is going in for him. I've very much liked his game so far, he just needs a bit of puck luck imo

Its just crazy to see 0 SOG and 0 PTS in the Finland game, 1A in a 10-0 game, and 0 SOG and a turnover to lead to the first goal for the Swedes. I'm just hard on him lol. The fact he is even in +/- on a team with 15 GF and 4GA is disappointing.

One of the things I noticed with Dumais was his chemistry (or lack thereof) with Conor Geekie, who was his center for all of the games so far. Passes between them are always a little off. Glad they woke up and put him back with Celebrini. Dumais and Cowan are the two I've noted to have distinctly bad puck luck despite the chances they have created. Also, I'd imagine the Finland and Sweden games they did pre-scout on him specifically.
A lot of the team has been trying to do too much imo, and the only one executing it successfully is Celebrini, because he's the only one with that sort of skillset. They need to simplify things. This team can't win against the Swedes or Americans the same way recent world juniors teams did, but some of the players seem to be trying to force that style. If Canada went through the preliminary round with 0 losses, I would be concerned about their chances in the medal round. Now they can adjust.
...and if they are experiencing Hugo Hävelid-related trauma from yesterday's game, they can ask any member of the Team USA 2022 U18 Worlds team about their gold medal game. Shots were 51-15. Guess which team won 6-4.

Anyone else finding this to be one of the dirtier World Junior tournaments? There have been a lot of 5 minute majors handed out and a fair bit overturned that were still iffy, not to mention questionable hits going uncalled. Definitely seems to be a tournament you want to keep your head up in this year.

Canada takes this one easily. Celebrini proves that he is the future #1 pick by scoring a hattie plus 3 helpers. Canada wins 7-0. Go Canada!
