Dumais! He was due. Go Canada!
Hey Jack, I know you're watching this thread, what do you think of the game so far?
Celebrini! One more for the hattie!

Germany is playing us tough. I hope our key guys can step it up! Germany was playing desperate, as they should being in danger of relegation. Good on them for not rolling over, and good on Canada for not letting their foot off the gas once they got some leverage. Overall, a great game, even if it pales in entertainment factor after Sweden v Finland. Shocking revelation: playing your best player more than 13-16 minutes usually helps you win 8 shots on goal for Macklin Celebrini, deservedly named BP. Rousseau with some great saves in the last press, his numbers look less great but goals that got by him were around screens and power play goals on either undisciplined plays or suspect calls. About time Dumais got his goal. Also had 3 shots and 16 minutes TOI. Hope he can spring off this in the medal round for more production. Furlong with just under 20 min TOI, 2 shots on goal, +2. Good stuff per usual. There are two ways you can tell if Furlong is on the ice or not–either by the number and nameplate, or spot the old-school jersey tuck in the back. Never fails. Quarterfinal schedule set for Jan 2nd: Slovakia vs. Finland - 6:00 AM ET Canada vs. Czechia - 8:30 AM ET USA vs. Latvia - 11:00 AM ET Sweden vs. Switzerland - 1:30 PM ET Last year's gold medal game rematch... I'd hope everyone knows better than to underestimate this Czech team. Teams reseeded after QF. USA and Sweden should win, not so sure about Slovakia/Finland. That might be one to watch.

Canada is falling asleep in this one. The team has been bad but Rousseau needs to stop those two shots.

Finns are off to the semis too after beating Slovakia in overtime.
I'm happy Finland moved on, but you gotta feel for the Slovaks. What a great tournament only to fall apart in the final two games.

Bet you didn't have Jake Furlong scoring the tying goal on your bingo card! He's not doing the usual jersey tuck... maybe he should go without from now on?
Canada looked much better, Rousseau too. Czech's speed was giving them fits in the first. I was begging one of the forwards to finish any of the great setups Furlong was setting up for them but I think I like this result better.

Awesome for Furlong to get his moment on this stage. More of that shot in Halifax please.

God... that's a heart-breaker for Rousseau. He's been fantastic.

Heartbreaker... I don't even know what happens next now There will be multiple summits to determine the state of Canadian hockey and why Canadian youth are switching to soccer and lacrosse. Industry experts will be called in to try to figure out why a team missing 5 or 6 eligible elite players lost a game that one time. I know there will be backlash online as people use advanced calculus to figure out what went wrong. What went wrong is Canada lost a game, and they'll be back in Ottawa next year with a chip on their collective shoulders and a chance to win their 3rd WJHC in 4 years. I know you won't be going off the deep end like many other fans will be, but it's amazing to me the level of scrutiny a bunch of teenagers go through at this tournament. It's like QMJHL Maritimes Division Boards times 1000. I will say that I'm happy Rousseau, Furlong and Dumais got their shot at representing their country. I bet Rousseau gets a legit tryout and a contract this summer out of this. I was happy with how Furlong played. He wasn't supposed to be noticeable and he wasn't. Very steady overall. Dumais didn't have the impact I thought he would, and this level of competition emphasized his lack of explosive skating that is needed if he wants to compete at his size. If he has a hip flexor issue, I hope he's able to make a full recovery and gain that skating ability when he goes pro.

Canada had a stronger team last year and it took a Milic save in OT to save us from the exact same fate they suffered today before Bedard scored that ridiculous goal in OT to beat Slovakia.

Czechs totally revamped their program too and the results are showing. Two amazing back to back showings vs Canada supports that.
The world is catching up to Canada. It's no longer just our game. Sweden, Finland, USA, Czech are all capable of winning this tournament. Slovakia had a great tournament but fell apart late, even Latvia and Germany are finding more consistent success in this tournament.
It's not that Canada choked, they just lost to a good team. It's what I love about this tournament, it's anybody's to win.
All of this is factoring in a perennial favorite is banned from the tournaments currently. Once the ban is lifted on Russia, the competition only intensifies.
