I talked to someone last night who is involved with the Downe Bell thing. I think earlier, it was posted that Downes father would like him to return to Fredericton to finish this year in High School. He is being played to expose him to the Q level, but I think it's only for a game or two. Bell will be played when Downe is done and isn't worried about sitting for now. I like Downe as a defensemen but I would like to see where the coaches can take Bell. It would be nice to have his size out there. Bell doesn't use his size though. I did not see him throw 1 decent hit all preseason. Smaller guys ie Taite Paul were doing it with a lot less size. What good is a "less" mobile large D man that doesn't use the size advantage. I am not sure if Bell has the mean streak in him. IMO The physical game and making quicker decisions with and without the puck are areas where he needs a lot of improvement.

Bell is also 17 and will learn from Flynn and Co. that he has an advantage he can use to make him a better Dman. On Savard ... he is 100% better than he was last year (and he was very good at 17) ... great skating ... very physical ... very confident ... no panicing ... that was an excellent trade for Marquardt and the best is yet to come (high 1st round pick).

I think Savard will have a really good year and he'll get drafted. I don't think he was eligible to NHL Draft last year. Correct me If I'm wrong.

Is it because he is a late birthday?

Is it because he is a late birthday? I'm pretty sure yes.

I could not believe the cheap shot Southorn put on Matt Brown. That sort of hit has ended hockey careers. If the League is serious about curbing volience they should use that hit as an example to suspend Southorn.I was very dissappointed in Biduke and Eagles who where on the ice and skated right by. Morehouse or Sill would not have let that happen.Eagles now with the C has to show what a leader he his.I would hope Flynn would talk to them both. The new rules regarding fighting have to address the need to be able to go after a player that throws cheap shots knowing that someone will not fight because he will get suspended.Even so the next time Eagles is lying on the ice I am sur he would appreciate ateamate sticking up for him.

I don't think most of the guys on the ice saw it because as the play was whistled down one of the d-men came in and wanted to get at someone but seemed unsure who had hit Brown. Normally Bidduke is pretty quick to get invloved in situations like this.

Eagles going up to Southorn and getting the crap kicked out of himself is not going to help matters any ... If the team is going to bother carrying Lane, and dressing him ahead of better hockey players, IMO, he should be used accordingly ... he should have been on the ice waiting for Southorn when his penalty expired and made him face the music ... but he wasn't. If you aren't going to use Lane as an enforcer, then cut him ... and what better situation to use an enforcer than after one of your young players gets his bell rung with a cheapshot in a lopsided game no where near the puck? The only rationale I can see is if Lane would be facing an automatic suspension by going after Southorn due to the time and score of the game - in which case he can make it a point to take care of business with him next time the teams meet.

Even if Eagles or Biduke would have had words at least I could respect that but to keep playing and skate by in an 8-2 hockey game I question the leadership. As far as them not seeing the hit I am sure those on the bench would be telling them who did it and still no action at all.

I would have sent Lane after him once he got out, screw the fines and suspensions. I'm sure word would have gone around the league quickly.

Don't you think the bigger message comes when they only get minimum penalty for beating the person who cheap shots his teammates. Moncton will get back at PEI for this.
