Might as well get the ball rolling.
The PEI Rocket travel to Moncton on Friday night to take on the Wildcats. It will be both teams first game of the 2008-2009 campaign. Riopel won't be gone to NHL camp yet, so he'll get the start in goal. The Cats will be without Cameron and Barberio ( NHL camps ) also Sill will be missing out in action, along with Lessard.. they are both injured. PEI will be missing Doyle and Tousignant. They'll both be gone for NHL camps.
Really looking forward to getting the season started and seeing what this season brings us.
Predicitions?
I'll go with a Moncton victory in OT.

Should be a good game. 2 Solid Goalies with Riopel & Nadeau I predict a one goal game, another one, Cats had many of those last season. I predict the game will go to a shootout with the Cats winning.

Oh, those one goal games. Here's to hoping the Cats come out on the winning end of those more often than not this year.
It should be a good game though. Hopefully there's a good turnout. Was 4200 tickets sold as of yesterday, according to the paper this morning.

They'll probably be 5000 or so in my opinion.

We will be missing quite a few guys to NHL camps and injury. Alot of nervous rookies. If it's a one goal game, I think it will be in PEIs favor, not in OT or a shootout. I think 3-1 PEI with an empty net goal. Not to sound pessimistic to start the season, but with your possible captain out due to injury to start the season....I just think it will be a loss for the WCs.

I predict a 4-2 win for the cats. Very down about Sill as he is my favorite player. Hopefully he comes back without missing a beat.

According to today's T & T
Lessard is uncertain for Friday's game, due to his nagging groin injury.
Also Daniel Pettersson still needs to be released by his Toronto midget AAA club to be eligible to play.
The Wildcats claimed forward Chuck Schembri off waivers from the Drummondville Voltigeurs yesterday. He's playing this season for the Dieppe Gagnon Commandos of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. Gives Cats extra depth in terms of being there ready if they need to call him up as an affiliate player.

Cameron will miss 4 games and will be back on the 26th in Lewiston.

I would think the only release he would need was from Hockey Ontario or whatever it is called.

The Moncton Wildcats have been dealt a significant setback.
Zach Sill, a 20-year-old centre, suffered a broken thumb in the final exhibition game on Monday and he's expected to be sidelined for six weeks. He was named the club's Most Valuable Player last season, playing a hard-nosed, two-way style while contributing 18 goals and 26 points in 66 games.
"Zach is a really important member of our team and we're going to miss him,'' said Wildcats head coach Danny Flynn, whose club will open the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season against the Prince Edward Island Rocket tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the Moncton Coliseum.
"Zach plays with a lot of energy and physical edge and he's one of our key leaders. It's a blow for our team to lose him, but injuries are part of the game. It will be a challenge for guys to step up and take over in his absence.''
Moncton also begins the regular season without defenceman Mark Barberio and centre Randy Cameron, both of whom are gone to National Hockey League training camps. Barberio is Tampa Bay Lightning property. Cameron is a Detroit Red Wings prospect.
"Barberio will miss the first two games and Cameron the first four,'' said Flynn. "We'll miss them, but we're in the development business and it's great for them to go to an NHL camp. They'll come back better players as a result of that experience.''
It's uncertain whether forwards Pierre-Marc Lessard and Daniel Pettersson will be in the Wildcats lineup tomorrow. Lessard practised yesterday and he'll have a pulled groin re-evaluated today. Pettersson still needs to be released by his Toronto midget AAA club to be eligible.
The Wildcats claimed forward Chuck Schembri off waivers from the Drummondville Voltigeurs yesterday. He's playing this season for the Dieppe Gagnon Commandos of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
"He's an 18-year-old with a big heart and he plays with a lot of grit,'' said Flynn. "He gives us extra depth in terms of being there ready if we need to call him up as an affiliate player.''
