Devon Oliver-Dares. Drafted eligible player playing AAA with the Dartmouth Subways this year. 12g 12A in 21 games this season. Projected to go 1st-2nd round in this summers draft. Best Bantam age player I have seen since James Sheppard . So I expect he will play just 1 year of Midget . Is he not thinking about NCAA ? He isnt playing up the NCAA route from what ive heard...that might/will change though. He was the best Bantam aged player in the province last year but a few kids have caught him in my opinion.

Ok so after a whopping 8 game losing streak, and now being 14 points out of a playoff spot I think its time to revisit the prospects. So if someone could maybe update the top 5 guys for the draft. You know states scouting report the whole 9 yards. Lala I'm looking at you. Next since were looking at the 3rd overall pick in the euro draft to maybe give some insight on who might be a good pick for there? Halifax is still going to take Taylor Burke 1st or 2nd, which ever pick they end up with. Ciampini has fallen in a lot of scouts eyes because of his drop off and his skating. His linemate Frederick Gamelin is being compared to Pierre-Marc Bouchard so I think perhaps that would be Halifax's 2nd choice, hard to tell though. Only one defensemen is worth taking at 1st or 2nd and thats Dominic Poulin of SSF AAA in Quebec City. Hes 6'01 185, good 2-way type d, solid all-around, im guessing if BaC misses the playoffs that would be someone they target.

What about the second part of the question any ideas on a euro? I'm thinking 17 year old winger.

Unless they get a great offer for the 3rd overall euro pick, they should be able to pick a 17 year old with high end skill and at an age that fits with their core... a combo that would be hard to pass up vs. a 20 year old Knotek. My vote goes to trading Knotek and a 2nd or 3rd round pick for a solid 17-18 year old.

I like that but there is that pesky NTC clause that Knotek has as well as anybody who would pick him up next year having to use a 20 spot as well as a Euro spot.

They just can't let a NTC of a 20 year old keep them from moving towards the future. This year it made sense as it was Knotek or nothing... but next year its Knotek vs. high end, young new euro and Bety (for example). Quebec was interested in Knotek this year until they decided to sell... he may still be a good fit for them next year. They have a euro spot or two opening though they may be keeping Tardif as their 3rd 20 year old.

That's what I figured... should be interesting to see how they split time for the rest of the season.

Yeah Roy would need his head examined if he kept Tardif as a 20 with a better 18 year old goalie available to play the big time minutes.

I have a funny feeling Cam will shop the euro pick and want to bring Knotek back. Just a gut feeling I have. I don't like the idea, and I hope they either manage to trade Knotek or he stays in the Czech Republic, but for some reason I think Cam would rather have Knotek back as a 20.
There are a few benefits of him coming back. For one, you know what you're getting. Also the euro draft can be a crap shoot a lot of times. Players and agents say they'll come but then they dont, the transition to North American hockey, the cultural changes for these young kids etc etc. Just because we have a high pick, doesn't mean we're guarnteed to hit a home run and get a high end 17 yr old, projected 1st rd NHLer. I can see the tempation to have Knotek back, but in the long run, with all the youth (and will be getting), I think it'd be beneficial to use the pick and keep the movement going.

Knotek basically came right out on Eastlink Friday night in a pregame interview with Matt Beardsley saying he would have waived his NTC this year except that he felt the team that had the deal lined up was not a legit contender... if the Moose deal him in June prior to the import draft I am sure there will be plenty of teams interested or even in September or October when it becomes certain he would be returning to the Q.. he goes on a special list anyhow as a 20 Euro next year so Halifax might as well keep their Euro pick and make it themselves

I missed the interview but that's good new for Hali and for Knotek as he should be playing for a contender.

I could see the Moose trading the 3rd overall Euro pick for a Amyot type player.
