Ahhhh ... now I can buy my season tickets for next year. I promised Mr. Irving that I would, if he fired Shannon.

I'm surprised but I'm not...I'm surprised that they did after the 1st round upset, but in general the team has been spinning it's wheels for years, I think having Garland extended Shannon's term by a couple years.
I think all the bad trades and bad picks did him in.
I don't think the franchise is in horrible shape, but I'd like to see somebody brought in with the goal of winning championships and letting them do their job.

I think letting them do their job is the asterix... it would surprise me to see them promote Ritchie thebeau to the GM position... but it they do it will be more of the same.... Thebeau... a current Irving employee.... will be was easier to "align with the owners wishes"

He never fully committed to anything, which hurt the team more than anything else could have.
He either needed to be building big a few years ago, or he needed to tell Mr. Irving not to bother bidding. You guys were in a similar position to Saint John (albeit, you were definitely in a better spot to buy for next year because you didn't have a contender two years before the Memorial Cup year to work around).
There is so much conflict in what has happened. If they truly were building up, the Bellamy pick should have been traded at the draft.
You can build up and not completely suck every year, but it takes better decision making wrt to the buys. Your free agent picks helped, but you've traded draft picks like candy in the years that should have laid the foundation for the Memorial Cup team, then bid without the calibre of team, and now are talking rebuild.

That being said, Thibeau has a very good hockey mind and has been around junior hockey for 15+ years. There are things the cats do well(usually Euros and FA's plus treat players well) but they need to get better at drafting and developping. Those are things you have to do EVERY year, of course they are more important when you are rebuilding, but developping young players should happen every year. The Bellamy example is glaring...no way in hell you should not be able to develop a 16 year old 1st rounder in a season where you finish 14th!!!! Wonder id Rumble is gone too?

Definitely unexpected especially after winning a round in the playoffs. A great move for the Cats though.
Something has to be happening with Rumble too, not many GMs will want to roll with a coach they inherited and will want their own guy in place.
I wonder when they want the new GM in place? I assume Thibeau will run the draft so it's doubtful the new GM will have much of a role there this year.
Maybe the success that Charlottetown has had over the last two years spurred Mr. Irving on thinking the Wildcats deserve the same level of success.
Any names out there that anyone could think of?

I agree - Rumble must be on thin ice ... might depend who ends up applying for the GM job - if it is a coach/GM type who wants to do both, or if the new guy has his own person in mind for the job. At the very least, if Rumble is working for a new GM that did not hire him, he will be on a short leash heading into next season ...

If not Rumble then probably Hepditch. The defense did not improve at all this season. The Bellamy situation makes it even worse.

Grant Sonier? He’s still around I believe and didn’t do a bad job when he was in Charlottetown

Hate to see anyone lose their job but this was overdue.
I guess the new GM will make the decision on Rumble.
