Cute. I have been to many games in Saint John, but almost as many in Moncton. And a fair number in Charlottetown and Halifax in recent seasons too. Regardless of geography, my observation of Mr. Irving's behaviour comes as much from speaking with players and coaches as it does from watching him at games. I can't imagine what motivation any of those guys would have for lying about it. They weren't even complaining, by the way, just observing how awkward it can be sometimes. I'm a little surprised you're so adamant it's never happened, and I guess now wondering if it's all made up. I'm curious: do you also disagree with the assertion that Mr. Irving is more involved than most owners in what are typically considered GM and coach decisions? I've heard from very reliable sources that he is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations, not necessarily to the point of who plays on the PK and PP or on whose line. I was only arguing about what I have personally witnessed for 600-700 games. I appreciate the correction. I have seen Mr. Irving lean over, but yes, only a few times, and I did not hear what he said. I added that to what I've heard from players and others, but that's all second-hand. When you're right you're right, and, hearing from multiple people who've been close to Mr. Irving many many times, I was obviously wrong. If it matters: I think Mr. Irving is the best owner in the league in many ways. He sees to it that his team has every resource it might need to succeed, and that is huge. I still think his personal involvement might undermine his coaches and GMs from time to time, but this is speculation too, and just my opinion.

Catnut use to sit close enough to RKI to be able to spit on him. He has moved away now but was in those seats for 10+ years. I'll take his word for it rather than a Wildcat hater from St. John. I use to sit right across the ice from RKI and you could usually see him up banging on the glass cheering on the boys ... or yelling at the Refs (I could hear him some nights). Yes, people should always believe those who know most and best -- and several commenters here have obviously been to more Wildcats games than I, and they are adamant than Mr. Irving doesn't yell at his guys. So, my apologies. I was wrong. I'm not a Wildcat hater, by the way. I love the game. I get to games whenever I can, and that usually means Saint John, but I get to Wildcats games a few times every year, and cheer for them. I also think Mr. Irving is the most generous owner in the league. I do criticize Wildcat decisions from time to time, as I do Sea Dogs ones, and I can't even talk about my beloved Habs these days. Anyway, sorry for ruffling feathers. I am keen to see who takes on the GM role in Moncton. The right guy can take the team to the Mem Cup.

I think Irving is a wonderful owner all things considered. Is he perfect in every way? No one is. But his support for his team is unquestioned, if they need something they get it, and he is clearly passionate about them. He is present and accessible to fans, going so far as to walk around the concourse at intermissions handing out free candy to children. He is obviously demanding on his staff, the Wildcats are no different than any other Irving company - if a coach or GM is looking for a place to work where the owner just signs the cheques and is otherwise never seen or heard from, this is not the spot. I don't know if I would go so far as to say he micromanages, but he definitely keeps a close eye on operations, and expects results - excuses don't fly. Perform or be replaced by someone who will - just like in his other companies.

With Askew scoring the winner and going to game 7 with CHA and the heavy influence of wildcats on Bathurst
Let’s put together the team we could of had before Roger made his trades ...
Howell - Murphy - Klima’s x2 - Askew - Mann-Dixon as 20’s pick 3 Maletesta .... who else?

My issue is more with wasting draft picks than trading players. I think Crossman is a similar situation to Bellamy though, they barely played him then had to trade him when he was unhappy with usage, had the same issue in Quebec before clicking in Bathurst. My issue with the Askew trade is mostly that they got welsh and then made him some kind of dumb promise that he wouldn't be traded when they could have gotten a couple of nice assets instead. As of right now they basically have nothing to show for Askew...which is dumb based on the scorched earth rebuild that did last year...get picks or a young player...

Yeah, some of the blame has to fall on Rumble.

Darrell Young's name has been brought up. Locally, who would you consider a solid hire to take over as Wildcats GM? Have to wonder if Dave Cameron will throw his name in the hat. He was let go as Calgary Flames assistant coach this week. Ritchie Thibeau is an Amateur Scout for the Flames. There's a connection. Dave Cameron has been named head coach of the Vienna Capitals. They're part of the Erste Bank Hockey League. Scratch his name off.

Anybody else find it weird that they had an article on what Shannon is doing in the T-T a month after he got fired? It seems a little soon to be doing a follow up article on how he's making out and generally you don't see that when someone was fired. It would make more sense to have an article about how John Torchetti or others that have moved on are doing.
