Less than two months from the opening of the trade period. You could say Moncton is exceeding expectations so far. Last season started out strong, but the team faltered once November hit.
I'd like to see a depth defenseman acquired. Someone who won't cost a lot but. A name that comes to mind is Alexis Girard. Played for Saint John last season but was traded to Gatineau in August. He's currently playing in the Quebec Junior A League.
I'm not against trading a veteran like Aspirot. I see Baie Comeau as a team who could be calling about him but only if we're getting Meriser-Ortiz at the draft.
What are your thoughts?

I am not ready to make a decision yet ... I think we need to wait a few more weeks and see where we stand ...

It's a bit of a tough spot. 1-the conference is pretty stacked with BC and Halifax, plus also Chicoutimi and Rimouski(if they can right the ship). PEI is red hot having won 7 straight. 2-I think the Cats are a year away from their "peak" 3-costs will be very high this season due to the Memorial Cup in Halifax 4-The schedule has been relatively soft. The good news is, November will be a big test...out of the other top 7 teams(Hal Cha Bc Chi RN Dru), the Cats play those teams 6 out of 10 games the next 3 weeks and 9 of 19 games until the Christmas break. We can look at the Cats record after 27 and 36 games and see where they are at. So far they have yet to beat one of those 6 teams in 3 contents(Hal x2 and RN).

I think they have a decision to make. When is "their year"?
- Are you comfortable with this years team in going for it? Be prepared to pay astronomical prices just to play catch up. - Is next year the year? They have a potential excellent group of 20s with McKenna/Cyr/Aspirot. The way Mckenna is playing though will he be guaranteed to come back? Also Lavallee has been good in limited starts but do you want to go into a contending year with a 17yo starter? D is still thin. - Is 2020-21 the year built around Pelletier's 19yo season?
I don't really care what route they choose because as fans we're just along for the ride anyway, but hopefully they just dedicate themselves to one route.

I think your year is probably next season
But i wouldn't be surprised to see you make some moves to add some 18-19 year olds to this years team to make a little semi run now

I think if they were to take a step back this year, they can load up for both 2020 and 2021. Part of it would be moving some 19-20 year olds to get players back(now or as futures) that would be around for 2 years. Mostly defense and goaltending.

I'm still wondering what the plan for MacDonald is?
A legitimate 25 goal player can be added to the team for free soon or be traded for extra help on the backend.

I know that his relationship with management is not very good. I would not be shocked at all if he was traded, the next 4-6 weeks they hope he can rehabilitate his value.

I know that his relationship with management is not very good. I would not be shocked at all if he was traded, the next 4-6 weeks they hope he can rehabilitate his value. MacDonald's effort level was a concern last year. his offensive ability is offset by his lack of playing in the other two zones. With that said moving him now would be selling low and given what was paid for him, I don't think that is a great idea.
We could still have a strong team in 2020-2021 but I think Moncton's go for it year is next year IMO. (assuming McKenna is back)
To re-tool and build around Pelletier's 19 YO season you would have to make many strong trades between now and then. It would be wishful thinking to assume they will be stronger in 2020-2021 than next year.
I would like to see them move Seitz and Capannelli at the deadline for a 17-18 YO Defenceman or picks that could be used next year for a veteran defensemen. I think we keep Leclerc as I don't think there is much of a market for him and he is more valuable to the success of this season than any trade would be.

You build around Pelletier's 18 year old year and then trade him at 19 to recoup much of what you move in next years run

I've been told he will be in the lineup tonight. Wonder where he fits with a full lineup? Pelletier-McKenna-Cyr have been on fire ... Desnoyers and Hudson have both staked a strong claim to a top 6 spot alongside Khovanov ... Seitz, Pataki and Capanelli have also played well ... Short term, Desnoyers is out for the U17s and Capanelli may or may not be in the lineup ... nice to have depth.

If they are still shopping him, I'm sure they will play him top 6 and on the PP to build his value.
