And there it is ...a SJ win tonight over the Titan closes it out. The Titan will officially finish last overall, and we get that 18th place pick ... best odds to be first overall.

Who do you think the Cats will pick at 3rd overall? Depends who you ask. Joshua Roy and Justin Robidas will likely be the first two off the board. It's wide open at 3rd overall. Personally, I would trade 3rd overall. To Gatineau: 2019 3rd overall pick To Moncton: 2019 1st round pick (Gatineau) 2019 1st round pick (Charlottetown) 2019 2nd round pick (Sherbrooke) 2020 1st round pick (Halifax)

Halifax has traded for 2nd overall twice and didn’t pay that steep of a price. I think if you remove the 2020 pick you might have a shot at a trade but you may need to include another pick going back to Gatineau. 1st, 1st, 2nd for 3rd overall and a 4th or lesser 3rd.

I think the value of 2nd overall vs. 3rd overall would be highly variable depending on the year ... if it is true that this year 2-5 is very much in the eye of the beholder, than I can 2nd and 3rd overall having similar value ... if it was a year where there was a clear cut #2 miles ahead of everyone else, clearly it would be worth a big premium to the #3 pick. How high the 1sts you get back end up being would also be a significant factor - clearly if you get, say, 5 and 8, that is worth more than if you get 10 and 14 ...

Yea this is very true. 2-5 is pretty tight so, it's almost impossible to tell what that does to prices. In 2016 McIsaac and Groulx were pretty much consensus ahead of everyone else. This year we don't really have that, we have one guy who's the clear #1 and a bunch of guys underneath. Hard to tell if that raises the demand for 2-5 pick or drops the demand because one is seen as just as good as another.

The Drouin comparison that you mentioned (forgot about McIsaac honestly) is the one I thought about immediately-I feel at the time Simon Desmarasis was actually a decent asset, he just never panned out after that 16yo season. To Halifax: 2011 1st Round (2nd Overall) pick To RN: 2011 1st Round (4th Overall) 2011 3rd Round (40th Overall) 2012 3rd Round (Saint John) Simon Desmarasis (2nd Rounder in 2010, decent 16yo season) Agree that without the 2020 Halifax 1st it probably goes through. However I don't think they'd have to send another pick with it, I think 2 later 1sts and a 2nd get it done. The only thing is in a draft like this in terms of depth, and the state Gatineau is in terms of quality 01s, I see more value in picking 3 guys early on rather than moving up. I don't see the guy going 3rd as being the game changer between a run in two years and selling off for what you can get. The only team (I've mentioned this idea before) I feel that could bite would be SJ, but I don't think they'd be wanting to move the BLB pick just to move up a couple spots with the 02 core they have. As an armchair GM, if I'm Moncton, I'm trying to find a suitor for McKenna, at draft time. Start to build around this crop. I find it's hard to gauge his value as a 20, but I think back to the 2011 deadline when Gatineau added Devos (top 20yo for half a season+3rd), trading to Victo two 1sts and a 2nd, along with a roster player who never really developed further. I don't think that is too much to ask for a guy like McKenna, maybe an extra pick goes to Moncton/no 3rd is given up for the extra half a season.

I'd say if Moncton ends up with the 3rd overall they pick C. Whynot. Obviously we want a top 2 pick but this Whynot kid sounds like a player. Does anyone know the official date and time of the lottery? Any chance it gets live streamed like the Memorial cup announcement was?

No official date has been announced. Odds are as follows: Moncton 42.9% Val d'Or (via Saint John) 28.6% Shawinigan 14.3% Gatineau 9.5% Saint John (via Blainville) 4.8%
