Agreed. From the sounds of it, they aren't targetting an 18 year old depth D but one in particular may have fallen into our lap, that should be able to help us out this season, so a step up from the others mentioned but not necessarily any better than the guys a year younger than him. If his specialty is defensee, then it could be a good addition, if it even happens. If it does happen, I'd expect Olivier Desroches to be traded. Any names floating around on who or who may not be this 18 year D that fell into our laps? I haven't heard any rumors floating around about a possible D coming in. Internally, we have Sibley if he had a change of heart. I know Gatineau is about to trade a d or two (9 after McQuaid)

I think they were referring to someone now and not at the draft who is rumored to be Innis then.

Just that it was a guy who would likely play most nights when he's healthy as 4-6 d-man. I was told it would cost us "nothing". The person who told me this wasn't sure if that literally meant "nothing" or if that meant "very little". I see someone mentioned Sibley. That's an interesting thought.

I would still like to pick up a 19yr old forward who would be back next year but with the prices being paid probably better off waiting for the draft when guys like element will be a lot cheaper.

Going through our list of drafts and players, Sibley is the only guy that fits the bill of a 2001 birth year that would cost us a legit nothing. I would debate whether or not Sibley is a #4 on this group though. Maybe #6. Thus if its an actual cost of nothing I think it has to be Sibley, or a pure free agent. Obviously if the cost is actually "next to nothing" it could be a truckload of possible players.

Not to bash the guy cause I actually liked him last year, but why would a guy that didn't make the team out of camp be good enough or better than what we have now? Btw, is he still a prospect or did we cut him?

I don’t think he is ahead of anyone already in the lineup so I doubt he come back to the Q to see limited action.

This is merely speculation ... but I've noticed that both Gatineau and Sherbrooke have 9 defencemen listed on the their respective rosters as of today. Braeden Virtue and Jaxon Bellamy are both 2001 born D that could fit well into the Sea Dogs' plans. However, both should be far from "free", especially Bellamy.
Editor's Note: The author would very much like to see Jaxon Bellamy come back to Saint John. However, the chances of that happening any time soon are virtually nil - and/or would likely cost a small fortune in terms of assets which Sherbrooke would require to complete such a transaction in the foreseeable future.

I have nothing against Sibley but I am hoping for someone better than him to be brought in to give them experience and improve the D.
I'm not looking for them to use high end assets but if they could get someone to come in for a couple of 3rds or 4ths.
Edit: unless of course they can get someone very good that will help for 2 years.

And Sherbrooke are set up to be pretty good this year and next. Bellamy is key to that both years. Not going anywhere.

Free agents or waivers would also be at no cost.

Free agents or waivers would also be at no cost. Yes, but these won't be known until the end of the trading period and then they still have to go through the waiver system. It sounded more like they already were talking to someone.

It sounded more like they already were talking to someone. There seems to be some degree of uncertainty the way I read it. Would they not already be talkin to a free agent anyway? Would the Sea Dogs not be one of the first teams to have the option to claim someone from waivers? Perhaps they consider it likely that a particular player will be placed on waivers. If so, I wouldn't expect much but it doesn't sound like anything to get too excited about at this point anyway. Not saying that it necessarily is a free agent or someone that will be placed on waivers but it's possible. If it is a drafted player then I'm curious why it hasn't been announced yet.
