actually not a bad choice. Kind of boring IMO ... Lacroix comes across as pretty dull and uninspiring. Does have a long track record as an assistant in the pros, but not much head coaching experience at any level. I agree ... but with all of the years assisting in the NHL he has to be better now than when he left here with Ted Nolan. I just want whomever comes in here to maintain the system that Torchetti put in place ... it was a blanketing defensive style that also encouraged offensive creativity. Fun to watch when they were playing a full 60 mins.

Fun to watch when they were playing a full 60 mins. 100% in agreement. I also hope he can have a say in which players he would like to see the Wildcats acquire. I know it's Christmas and the Holidays and all but I wish that he gets to watch a few sample of games on video, good and not so good, fairly quickly, so he can give his imput about the type of players that he thinks is missing and that he would like to see Thibeau acquire. Lacroix could also get some input quickly from the assistants (I assume they are all staying, is Lacroix bringning any of his men as well ?) who have seen this club in the first half and some last year. We can't wait to add players if that is the case and can't wait for Lacroix to make-up his mind and opinion by seeing the team play live as it will be too late for the trades. Many things need to be done quickly. The team should be built to match the style of play that he wants to teach/coach. It's a go for it, all-in year after all !!! Anyone know if Lacroix only signed for the remainder of this season or is he also committed for next year, etc. ? Also, I see from the Wildcats press release that they refer to Ritchie as the Director of Hockey Operations (does not say "interim"). Is the plan for him to be the GM for just this season up to the draft or what about next year, etc.? I know that the success this season or lack thereof can dictate a lot about what happens next but what is the plan as of now ?

Interesting note , Daniel Lacroix was head coach when Salvis played for the Cats in 2004-05 Yes, hopefully that will be a positive in building some quick chemistry among the coaching staff - always tough to be parachuted in mid-season and inheriting a staff you did not choose. Personalities can be one aspect, but even just when it comes to finding people whose skill set complements those of the head coach and helps fill gaps ... every head coach would have different aspects of the game that are their specialty or preferred focus, and ideally they have assistants who can capably address their areas of weakness or those of less interest to them.

What was Lacroix’ role in MTL? Did he work primarily with the D? F? PP? PK?

I assume that means Salvis goes back to the press box? Or maybe Boyce resumes his role as director of player development.

Salvis was upstairs Saturday as well. This could be an excellent learning opportunity for him as a young coach, Lacroix has spent a lot of time as a video guy, first when he was with the Cats, and later in the NHL. I know in his early years as an NHL assistant coach he was the eye in the sky - does anyone know if he eventually spent time behind an NHL bench, or was he always in the video role? At Saturday's game, Hepditch was running the forwards, Boyce had the defense ... Hepditch seemed to be the one closer to Lacroix with whom he was consulting throughout the game, while Boyce appeared to be a bit more off in the corner at the far end of the bench. Kind of an interesting twist in all of this to see Hepditch back so soon after he couldn't agree on contract terms in the offseason - can't imagine the money offer suddenly got that much better over night, and I sort of have a hard time believing RKI would have let him walk over a few dollars this summer ... it would appear that either Torchetti did not care for him, or the other way around. Perhaps the rumors of Torchetti not treating the support staff well extended to his assistant coaches? In any event, whatever lead to Hepditch's departure apparently did not cause RKI to hold a grudge. I always figured he would be the first former Cats player to become head coach one day ... appears he has once again leapfrogged back into the pole position for it ...
