Since the season is looking like it is screwed and all the talk of the Coronavirus I thought we could talk about next seasons roster. Desruisseaux (20)-Budgell(19)-Jobin(19)(euro) Casey(20)-Beauregard (19)-Euro OA-Johnston(19)-Gill(17) Elliott(17)-Leblanc(18)-Melancon(19) Cormier(18)- Laaouan (19) Plandowski(17)-Trudeau(18) Hamel(18)-trade?? Goobie 18-19 year old backup All in all I think this team with a couple good moves in the summer and we could be looking at a top 6 team that battles for the division and a team that keeps it close every night.

this i can get behind
i don't see melancon on next years roster.... didn't show enough in my opinion....
will be a big yeaar for leblanc as well..... if he doesn't show much more... he could be waived or cut
i'd expect Ben Boyd on the team for sure
uncertain on some of the other prospects in the system and their chances
biggest question marks..... goaltending and scoring depth

Desruisseaux- Budgell- Jobin Casey- Euro- Trade Elliott- Beauregard- Johnston LeBlanc- Gill- 16 year old Boyd, Free Agent
Cormier- Laaouan 20 year old- Plandowski Trudeau- Hamel Free agent
18/19 year old starter Goobie
If they will report: Ryan Greene F Luke Vardy D
Could have a shot: Alex Graham Samuel Chabot
Not entirely sure what they have for draft picks in this year, so I only penciled in 1 16 year old but it could be more than that. They’re gonna need a 1A/B option to team with Goobie because he’s not ready for prime time every night. I think somewhere around 25ish starts is reasonable though (assuming full health from both goalies). I still think this team should have been aiming to go for it around Cormier (02 year), I don’t know that they are with the moves they made but that’s what I’d have done.

Also Id expect the Weldon Dell kid or Dell Welton not sure which is first to compete for a spot on the back end. Ryan Greene would be a great get for Hulton if he could somehow convince him.

I think Welton is a victim of numbers.... see him being traded for a chance elsehwere Has Welton shown enough in his games with the Q to warrant a shot? I liked him in Major Midget, didn’t think his game looked Q caliber in Jr. A this year but if he showed well in his games with the Islanders then maybe there’s a chance.

The goaltending is perhaps the most interesting question.
Options include:
-acquiring a 18/19 guy to platoon with Goobie.
-drafting a Euro goalie.
-running with Goobie and 18 y/o Chad Arsenault.
All have their pluses and minuses. Option 1 is the most traditional approach. Of course, you have to pay to acquire the other goalie and the eventual Hope is that Goobie takes over anyway. It’s kind of like when we ran Welsh/Grametbauer in 16/17.
For drafting a Euro goalie, a guy coming over here likely wants to start, so it it a little tricky win Goobie’s development. It’s something of an expensive asset to spend on the situation when we want Goobie to continue to develop.
Option 3 is a risky proposition....but they do like Arsenault and he had a solid season at 17 on a bad jr A team. The catch here is that if the combo falters you are basically looking for FA help to jumpstart things mid season.

Here's what we are looking at for picks for the 2020 QMJHL draft:
Charlottetown : 2HFX-3-3SHE-4-4SHE-5-7-7SHE-8-9-10-11-13-14
As of right now, there is uncertainty about the decision on the final standings (current standings, points percentage?). Regardless, the final decision shouldn't impact the placing of Halifax, Sherbrooke, or us.
So, going in reverse from the standings, our selections (as of now) would be as follows:
Halifax 2nd - 20th overall Our 3rd - 48th overall Sherbrooke 3rd - 54th overall Our 4th - 66th overall Sherbrooke 4th - 72nd overall Our 5th - 84th overall Our 7th - 120th overall Sherbrooke 7th - 126th overall Our 8th - 138th overall ...our remaining selections...156th, 174th, 192nd, 210th, 238th, 256th
A couple of important notes on this... Val-d'Or and Victoriaville may be subject to 1st round compensation picks. This is due to the fact that Evan Nause and Guillaume Richard did not report to their teams. If a first round pick doesn't report, the team can release him from their protected list and get a first round pick the following year (I think at the end of the first round). If these teams claim a compensation pick, it will move our selections a spot or two.
Also, things are kind of up in the year with the cancellation of the regular season and likely cancellation of the playoffs. Teams who loaded up are not happy and likely will appeal to the league for some sort of response... but that it a tricky request to navigate.
Also, when talking about picks, I'll be curious to see if we've negotiated anything more with Sherbrooke should Xavier Bernard. He needs to be signed by June 1st (assuming that deadline doesn't change) and if he's unsigned it much more likely to return to the Q as a 20 y/o. If that happens, hopefully we have a deal in place to get some further payment from Sherbrooke.

I thought I heard Corey or George say on a webcast not long ago that there could be another second for Bernard coming

Sherbrooke has nothing for picks the next few years.... but there could be deals lined up that remedy this.

There is definitely compensation attached if Bernard returns as a 20 .... I thought it was a third but could be mistaken

Playoffs are officially cancelled. So let’s really start discussing next year who are some players you would like to target? What would it cost to get Grimard and Element from Cape Breton? We would get our goalie to split with Goobie and we would get our 20 year old leader that won’t let our players get pushed around. I think Element is exactly a Hulton type guy and would be a great fit.
