www.tvasports.ca/2021/01/20/sea-dogs-joshua-roy-bientot-echange-1translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&hl=en&prev=search&pto=aue&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=fr&sp=nmt4&u=https://www.tvasports.ca/2021/01/20/sea-dogs-joshua-roy-bientot-echange-1&usg=ALkJrhjE45h2PjR608bhZMFnE_xp4fdjbwThe first overall pick in the 2019 QMJHL Draft, Joshua Roy, wants to leave the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs. The 17-year-old forward has asked GM Trevor Georgie for a transaction and did not report to the New Brunswick roster. He should change his address in the next few days. For the moment, the reasons for this request remain extremely unclear. In the entourage of the young hockey player, they have refused for several weeks to disclose the reasons for this disagreement between Roy and the Sea Dogs. Again Wednesday, we were walking on eggshells. What we are told, however, is that it is unrelated to its use on the rink. Roy ended the opening leg of the season at the top of the team's scorers with 17 points in 15 games, while being used to all the sauces by coach Greg Gilbert. Teams in the race For the moment, the former color-bearer of the Chevaliers de Lévis has remained at home while waiting for a transaction to be completed. The native hockey player of Saint-Georges-de-Beauce wanted first and foremost to avoid complying with a mandatory quarantine by going to Saint-Jean, only to then have to do another in the very likely event that it is traded to a Quebec team . Note that Roy hasn't asked to be traded to any particular market, but our information tells us that it would be surprising for Georgie to send the 17-year-old prospect to a rival in the Maritimes. The price demanded by the Sea Dogs hockey man would be high but, as of Wednesday, several teams had shown interest and three teams were at the height of the race. Everything therefore indicates that it will change its address by the transaction deadline, January 25. Draft year It's not exactly an ideal scenario for a young hockey player who is in his draft year, let's face it. On the preliminary list of the Central Recruiting of the NHL, published at the end of October, Roy had obtained a rating "B", reserved for prospects of second or third round. Joined Wednesday morning, the agent of the Beauceron striker, Olivier Fortier, assured that this situation would not harm his client. “Joshua won't have a problem with that. When everyone will know the circumstances, they will understand, ”he simply said, also refusing to give further details. For his part, Trevor Georgie did not respond to our calls. I love reading translated articles. That's awesome.

I would not be surprised to see them receive most of those picks back. The 12th is no big deal, but they probably get the 7th and most of the Jones package back. Same with the Kotkov 3rd. They also paid a 9th and a 10th for Roode and Dow respectively, and so far Roode has only played 2 games for them (he is still on the roster at least, and was only going to be a depth guy anyways). At best I can see them losing some of those really late round picks, and really Saint John probably doesn't care. They make up for it with guys they bring in for free from Ontario. Emond is a good return for practically no cost. Hopefully they can add a 20 year old defenseman as well.

Moody did not, although I doubt they care much about getting a 12th round pick back. Jones did for 5 games, which is hardly anything. I would not be surprised if there were conditions attached based on # of games played or if they play in the playoffs, especially with the Covid uncertainty. I highly doubt they were willing to pay a 3rd, 6th, and a 10th for 5 games, much of which was the result of Covid. They likely don't get anything for Roode since he is still on the roster, and Dow only cost a 10th so they may not get anything for him, but they should be getting something back for Kotkov if he does not show up (probably the 3rd round pick). We will see how it shakes out, but that is how it usually works. The Fortier trade worked out that way, with Moncton receiving a 3rd if he played a game and a 1st if he played a playoff game. Since he is not returning to the QMJHL, Moncton is not receiving anything. I wouldn't be surprised to see at least the Jones deal structured a similar way.

Not Rimouski's fault you paid for a guy who apparently was not that good
i would think the other deals were structured to pay more if the player actually played the season
but thats just me...... i really doubt you are owed anything... the guys did play pre season games ...... again not the other teams fault if you determine the player is not worthy a roster spot
its not remotely comparable to Fortier at all (Kotkov i would agree on but we were talking the carousel of 20 year old goalies)....

These were all half decent goalies and thought to be good trades when they made them. But they haven't addressed the real issue yet and that is team defense. I am sure we will be ready to move on from Emond by the end of the year if we stay status quo defensively.

Depends on the conditions. For the later round guys, they probably don't care. Pagliarulo and Alex O'Neill (who played just as many preseason games) can just be deemed a wash, since Chicoutimi and Saint John effectively just swapped 7th's in 2021 and 2022. Neither ended up playing in the QMJHL this year. When it comes to earlier round picks, like for Jones or Kotkov, the conditions are likely more strict than just showing up, especially with Covid. Georgie could have just been stupid and not included those conditions, but teams are not usually willing to give up those earlier picks without getting some kind of expectation of legitimate return... And that will certainly should exceed playing 5 games.

Unless it is because all games are cancelled due to Covid. Jones could simply decide he wants to stay in Ontario due to Covid, or it could be because Saint John decided he is not good enough. How do they prove one over the other? It really depends on how the deal was negotiated, but I would be very surprised if these GMs did not protect themselves in some way, especially with these preseason deals.

It’s no fault of Rimouski that they were not happy with his play and by the looks of things have cut Jones....

Yes I was referring to the season being cut short due to Covid. I'm sure many trades have those types of conditions. I realize there is the added complications that Covid can have on certain individuals but in my opinion that is just another element of the risk you take when acquiring a player. Nothing is for certain. Same as players that were already on the roster. It could just as easily be one of them that decides to sit out the rest of the season because of Covid. As for this new goalie, the price actually seems quite low. My guess is that conditions tied to that deal would potentially result in the price going up.
