Hearing there is interest for one of CB 20 yr old dman. Makes sense if Kotkov is not coming in. I wonder what that means for Hampl and Svechkov though.

Maritime Junior A Hockey League really isn't a great league to develop a young player and he had to play half a season there after having a great first half with the Screaming Eagles. I do agree maybe he didn't get the right opportunities to shine but Saint John got the right assets in the trade in his current play. For what it's worth, Drover actually played more games with the Sea Dogs since being traded that season than he did playing Junior A. He was allowed 9 as an affiliate plus was able to play a few more games for some reason (injuries I think). Ended up playing 12 total. Played 10 in Junior A.

Why do I get this feeling that everyone is waiting for TG to make this huge trade and wave a magic wand and make everything all better?
Hate to say it guys but this team is FAR from a contender. To burn more assets acquiring 20 year olds or players that won't be around for another season or two after this one is absurd, in my opinion.
I like the Drover deal. They obviously weren't going to give him the ice time as they favored other kids the same age or younger over him. The return was more than I expected. Good trade.
We need to be looking at deals where maybe we get worse this year but the trade makes us better the following year. NOW THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE a deal like one of our D that don't play D (meaning Poirier or Villeneuve) gets traded to a contender like Charlottetown now for picks, then some of those picks go back at the draft for say Plandowski (or pick any other contending team/player you want. Its an example).
Thats just my opinion but no way do I think we should be making moves hoping to win anything this year. That would just be plain "asking a state to just give you 11780 votes" type crazy.

Playing here, players get better, and hopefully go on to play either university or pro hockey at some point. The goal here in Yarmouth is to develop kids so they can continue to move up the hockey ladder. Not everyone will play in the QMJHL, but they get better as players and hopefully as people. Of course, the goal is also to win, but you can do that and develop players at the same time. BTW; am hearing whispers that Ben Roode is joining the Yarmouth Mariners and is on his way here. I think he's only played in 1 game this year the Sea Dogs, and am guessing he would want to play.

Otherwise i don't see a Plandowski deal happening

It doesn't have to be a top end guy that costs a lot of Assets. We either need a good forward that can help run the offense and provide some leadership or a good solid 20 year old Dman (Baker from CB would fit that mold). You are correct about the Poirier or Villeneuve situation. If they are not willing to commit to being harder to play against and start caring about defense than at least one if not both need to go. There is no room for two of this style of D-men on a team. If they can improve in these areas they would be excellent to have around.

It is 3 season. A player traded at 16 can come back at 19 and a player traded at 17 can come back at 20.
So that would be a no.
Baker is 20 and eligible to play here.

Another 20 YO D option would be Tristan DeJong in Moncton. But after dealing away Spence and Stewart he may not be on the market any longer. He would probably cost a 3rd, but price might be higher because he is all we have left.

We'll just have to agree to disagree there.

Plandowski was the first guy that popped into my head as a player on Charlottetown that will still have some seasons left in him after this one. Doesn't have to be him. Doesn't have to be Poirier/Villeneuve. There'd probably be all kinds of players and possibly picks involved, depending on who got traded where. p.s. One could argue some of our "defensemen" are actually more like an "impact forward"

I don't think you burn major assets, but there are a lot of 20 year old defensemen on the market that may cost something similar to what the Sea Dogs gave up for Drover. Xavier Bernard from Sherbrooke, Jarrett Baker from Cape Breton, and the two OA defensemen in Rouyn-Noranda are all good bets. If you get one of those 20's, you can split up Poirier and Villeneuve. Put Poirier with a guy like Inniss, who can solely focus on sheltering Poirier defensively, and then you can put Villeneuve with the new 20 to form a stronger top pairing. If Kotkov does not show up, then Saint John may also acquire a 20 forward like Evan MacKinnon from Rimouski for very little in return as well. Likely not much of an upgrade, but likely won't cost anything either.
