Wow.. big price but Guay is a real nice player and only 18! Still have the 21 Drummondville first and the cupboards aren’t completely empty. I am hearing they are still front runners for Mercer as well

Charlottetown has acquired Patrick Guay from Sherbrooke. 2022 1st, 2023 1st and Justin Gill is the price. Wowzers. Good for Islanders.

Charlottetown has acquired Patrick Guay from Sherbrooke. 2022 1st, 2023 1st and Justin Gill is the price. Ouch ... steep price. Is Guay that much better than Gill? Gill is 1 year younger, and is scoring at a same pace this year that Guay did last year ... is much bigger ... and so far this year, Guay has not shown (albeit a VERY small sample size) that he is that much better than the season prior. Other than draft pedigree as a former top-5 pick - what am I missing? Is Guay supposed to be much better than his stats indicate?

That is a nice move for Charlottetown. That is a top 5 pick you get for 2.5 years.
Sherbrooke is selling everything that is not nailed down right now. They still have Poulin, Parent, and Bernard (among others) and they have already picked up a bunch of 1st's and 2nd's.

This trade leads me to believe there has been a change in direction. Most thought Charlottetown would try to win this year, but acquiring an 02 like Guay makes me think they will try to win next season.

I thought Guay would be a really good add for Charlottetown if they could pull it off, and it looks like they could.

Well, atleast Gill wasn’t traded within the division. Justin will be one of the tougher guys to play against in a few years...wish him all the best.

Great acquisition as nobody truly knows what this year will be but this sets them up nicely for next year as well
gill is a great player but his stats are as a result of playing top 6 minutes this year.... guay will definitely outscore him in same role

Guay was a guy who was right in the mix when we were selecting Cormier at #4 overall in 2018. I'm sure that the team spent a lot of time talking with him when he was part of that prospect group at the top of the draft. He must be a guy that they have had on the radar for a while.
I haven't been able to follow as closely this year with the COVID rules, plus I didn't see Sherbrooke last year... but is it fair to compare Guay to a guy like Desruisseaux, but hopefully with a higher upside (and hopefully he doesn't take as long to adjust to our team).
It's a steep price, but he should be a strong payer for us for 2.5 seasons.
Hopefully we can see teams back on the ice soon.

I think it is all up in the air right now with the new variant. We haven't even seen the vaccination rollout make any difference yet, although I am not expecting that it won't, given time. I have heard many educated people say that being back to "normal" may still be 2-3 yrs away, and it probably won't be normal. Being at large gatherings may not be something that we all want to do anymore. I think an "all in" approach this year is a bit reckless. Or, maybe they feel the league will die in the new normal, and so thinking about your future is pointless. I have heard comments from several teams saying we can play in front of reduced crowds this year, but we can't do it a second year. I dunno.

The vaccine rollout was never going to happen fast so unless you're in health care there wouldn't be any difference really noticed yet. We're on track to vaccinate most Canadians by the end of September I believe. Talk about Canada and the US basically getting back to normal at the same time with concerts and large events happening, with masks, in Q4 after herd immunity is achieved. I think the league moves the calendar next year with a full season starting in November/December which should be fine with normal attendances if the vaccine rollout goes as expected.
