The wildcats have had a lot of bad luck lately, finding out that D'aoust was being returned the day before the trade deadline is a nice change of pace. Assuming thats actually how it went down.

Yeah it basically gives them Grenier. Ottawa probably knew it was the QMJHL TDL and him playing in SJ helps him more than Moncton. adding Grenier gives the a pretty good looking back end with Filion Grenier Iasenza and Morin looking 2 years ahead in 23-24. A LOT of work is needed to bring the top 6 up front to that level. Loshing Casey and Auger look good, they look more like 2nd 3rd liners on a contender. I'm mildly surprised a 19 year old D and possibly a F as well were not moved. Maybe they were too greedy...

They still need 20 year olds for next season and know we know they'll have 3 solid ones and don't have to trade for any. They'll get an additional pick for one of them in the off season. I would have liked to have seen at least one of the 4 moved though...preferably the one with the highest value. Lessard got a good package and is probably comparable to a Langlois or Labelle. Without knowing what the offers were its hard to have an opinion though. Id be disappointed for example if they could have got a least a 2nd rounder+ for one of them.

I think next year they might sell again but look at adding players as futures, basically players coming at the 2023 draft. I think they will grab a new Euro in June, Taibel has flopped barring a huge 2nd half. If they want to stay with him maybe maybe Barbashev will will be 19.

Labelle-kalmikov-barbashev Loshing-Taibel-Langlois Mueller-Pavan-Daniel Cloutier-Auger-Casey With the addition of Lemieux that likely takes Stewart out of the mix, leaves 12 forwards
Bellamy-Morin Iasenza-Hamel Pilote-Olson Darcy-Dollemont
Lemieux Fillion

I guess I have to cheer for Moncton next year
From what I saw of Grenier in the pre-season, I love his game.

They could call up Mercier for the reason of the season to add another FW.

The missing piece could be when/if Midget AAA starts back up in Quebec and the Maritimes as compared to the Q ... if the Q starts up sooner than one or both of the Midget AAA leagues, could influence the decision to call up a 16 year old or two to finish the year with the team rather than sit around.

I'm thinking MAAA will start before the Q because they don't need big crowds to be viable.

Sounds like Mercier is joining the team for the 2nd half
