so what do people think will happen this year? do we put all our chips in the middle and go for it? i think we should but it will depend on the mandate from the board i guess...... we don't have much in the way of quality draft picks left to offer but we have an abundance of quality futures we can move
I believe we will be in on Desnoyers from Halifax...... will be interesting to see but to me he's the prime trade add
what do others think?

I think if there’s any year to go for it, we have to this year. Right now, we’re sitting second overall in the league…so if the boys keep their play up, you have to reward them with a bit of reinforcement to go on a deep run.
Only problem with that is I don’t know if you’ll ever see the organization go completely all-in and bottom out for a few years. But I guess you can argue that we don’t have much for draft picks remaining, so might as well keep going and go all in.
We have some of the top players in the league with Simoneau, Guay, Budgell, Cormier, Trudeau, Laaouan…most of who won’t be back next year…let’s make some noise and go out with a bang.
Obviously, Desnoyers would be a huge add. I think we need a top 6 player who can score, but maybe just as importantly a couple of bottom 6 guys. I think it’s a recipe for disaster to ask 3 rookies to handle the 4th line duties in the playoffs.
On the back end, if you wanted to really shake things up you could trade Plandowski for a big return (maybe Desnoyer, or another established defenceman). But you’re also risking the chemistry factor, I know Plando is well liked in the room and the boys have already came out and said this is one of the closest teams they’ve ever played on.
My ideal scenario would be to keep Plando for the time being, while adding an older 5-6 D-man who could come in and be tough to play against.
Then comes the goaltenders…and I have no clue. I guess you give our two guys the next month to see what they can do.

I guess you give our two guys the next month to see what they can do. i personally wouldn't touch the goaltending..... with the defense we have and if we add a bit more firepower up front i think our goaltending is fine as is ideally i agree on keeping Plandowski for now but if it's the piece required to get a Desnoyers deal done you got to look at it.Personally i don't think it would be as Halifax will be going nowehere this year but time will tell i don't think adding another d is necessary unless of course the Plandowski move was made at xmas time then yes find a quality vet for bottom pairing minutes and go to town... otherwise i think it's kinda redundant to waste assets on d when rounding out the forward group should be the priority here i don't think you're asking rookies to carry a line either..... without having watched alot of the hockey thus far i get the sense the kids are mostly getting sheltered minutes but the lack of veteran depth up front has necessitated playing multiple rookies at times... but thats not a bad thing and adding a Desnoyers and one more vet bottom 6 guy should take care of that in house

I'd like to see them add:
2 FW. One top 6 and one bottom 6.
1 3rd pairing dman. A safe, strong defensive dman.

Yeah, the 4th line hasn’t been playing bad at all, but I fear getting line matched in the playoffs or something where you have a tired rookie line vs the big 3 from Shawinigan, etc.
You should be able to add an experienced 6th D man for next to nothing…not sure what we gave up for Stewart last year but you could probably get a feasible 19 y/o for a sixth or seventh.

The D may be more of a want or a luxury but still nice to have. The top 6 forward would probably be more of a top end guy (even if he’s on the “2nd” line), a guy that can move the needle and really help drive the offence… not just a complimentary piece to fill out the top 6. The bottom 6 guy… maybe a vet that could compliment Oliver and Elliot if those are the guys that would be on the 3rd line. Edit - I suppose 1 of those guys would be in the top 6. The end result is a big addition to your top 6, a much improved 3rd line and a veteran 4th line that can contribute.

I thought we may acquire a 19 year old proven goalie maybe. I realize it's hard to do. But if not, am i only one who would say Satny will be #1 after xmas? On another note, Isles up to #6 in latest rankings. I realize rankings do not mean a lot, at this time of year, but considering the WHL has not won 1 game in almost 4 years at the Memorial Cup, how can the top 4 teams in the country be WHL teams?

Couture could be an option for you guys, though he doesn't have a big Q track record but he has been very good in the 1st half. Likely would not cost a ton as co #1 competing for minutes.

we don't need a co #1
last area of concern is goaltending... cost to upgrade simply not worth it

Also not a good look that we lit him up last game, while being outshot for half of the game

Not sure if he’d be available but Zac Roy from the Armada would be a nice add to the top 6 gritty top 6 forward.

Wonder if we just see some tinkering or will Hulton go 100% all in? I hope we finally have the deadline where it is all in will be a couple years of tough times but Hulton can hopefully rebuild things back up quickly. I’d love a top flight forward also a gritty 2/3 line winger and a number 6 defender that is MEAN.
