I saw a similar thread on the Halifax board and thought we could use one over here to talk about the Islanders in the second half of the season.
The biggest thing for me after a trade period is hoping that the new team is able to gel and do it quickly. I remember someone in an interview (Budgell maybe??) said that this was the closest team he had been a part of. They have disrupted that a bit so it will be interesting to watch.
The other factor is the long break, everyone is going to be a bit rusty. Combine that with trying to place the new teammates, I think we might be in for a bit of a rough ride for the first couple weeks. The good thing is some of the other top contender teams will be in the same situation.
Does this team have what it takes to beat out the Titan or SJ?

I whole heartedly disagree they meesed with this team chemistry. They did pretty much the exact opposite. They left the core in place and brought in some complimentary players. The core of our team is still very much the same.

The core of our team is still very much the same. I mean it was slightly disrupted with the loss of Goobie and Oliver (more so than the players new this year). I don't think it's going to have a huge impact, but it was just a thought when I remembered it being mentioned they were a close team. Will it have a huge impact? Doubtful. Will it throw things off slightly at first? Probably.

Also things may be a bit different than usual, the guys will have gotten to know each other for a month+ whereas in usual years, they’re jumping in the lineup the night after they arrive with the team.

That's a good point, I wonder if that affects things. Guys might be more in-snyc after having a good chunk of time to practice with each other.

Idk? I know the Titan are skating they posted pictures on their Twitter. Not sure about other provinces, but in NB if your team is over the age of 12 you are allowed to practice.

Yeah, who knows…I think technically before the shut down, it was anyone over the age of 18 could practice…could be totally wrong though.

At one point in NB, our rules made specific reference to professional and semi professional sports teams (meant to include junior hockey) - so if that still exists perhaps their practices are considered “work” and treated differently than minor teams. Who knows?
