It comes down to degrees and what is personally important to you - for one person, they may decide to travel, while that same person judges their neighbour for having an extended family gathering over the holidays - meanwhile the neighbour judges them for travelling. We all want what is normal to us to return, and want the restrictions only on the areas that impact us less.
The optics of going out of province to train aren’t great - but they also point out the current absurdity of our restrictions and I think most people can empathize that the current rules are overkill. No current (or pending, as was the case with the infamous Moosehead re-scheduling) rules are being violated - NB residents can travel freely, including to Quebec. I know several people who have gone skiing in Quebec in recent weeks. The NB government, quite correctly IMO, does not care what you do in another jurisdiction, preferring to let them enforce their own rules. And in Quebec, current rules allow teams to practice, and visitors from other provinces.

Restrictions need to end next week in NB and NS, Kids are going back to school in NB and are in NS, and should on the Island, so its ok to have 1000 kids, with different vaccination rates all in the same room/building and not have a few 1000 fans vaccinated in a large arena with likely better air flow/quality then schools. Its ok to have 500-600 in Costco again different vaccine rates, but not in a rink to play sports which they have to be vaccinated to even play....1500 people protested the restrictions on Moncton on Saturday....many I know are fully vaccinated but went because they are losing their homes and businesses due to these restrictions, enough.
Go back to to limited restrictions to open and learn to deal with this, its not going away and not stopping so pivot and adjust...and learn to live again. PEI need to drop the 4 day isolation period, as covid is in the Island as much as off the island.
I for one think is crazy to have teams like Bathurst drive back and forth to QC everyday, (as that's what they are doing), in northern NB winters, and slippy roads when the rink is empty at home....if an accident happened hell would be paid...

People cared about moving a Friday game to Thursday...people have lost their fucking minds with this thing. I hear you but there is a point to be made that goes against your idea. When they decided to change the zone category on that Friday, they made the decision on the previous Monday (or was it Tuesday). If they didn't need any time at all they could have made the change immediately, but they did need the time for businesses to adjust to the new requirements. I don't think "businesses adjusting" meant "try to get as many games in as you can before we tighten things up". But they had a regularly scheduled game on the Wednesday that went ahead, and then a rescheduled game went ahead on Thursday. They are the same circumstances but one was allowed because it was within the grace period, but the second one was "not allowed" because it was rescheduled out of the lockdown period. It wasn't actually "not allowed" but it was frowned upon by the Premier, but he let it slide. But if they need any future considerations from the Premier, they probably already burned them. Playing the game on the Thursday or on the Saturday was the same risk, except Saturday would have had much tighter rules. Bottom line is that the Mooseheads played a game to get their game in and make more money. You probably could find several businesses that did the same thing, but just not at the same level of visibility. But I am on the side of the Mooseheads in this move. It doesn't bother me that they got an extra game in, but I am pretty sure that it bothered the Premier. If you don't need the Premier anymore through this and through his term then no big deal. But if you do need him to get concessions in the future then that might not go as well as you'd hope. Houston doesn't seem like a dick in front of the cameras, but who knows what he is like behind closed doors. I think the talk of needing the Premier is where it goes off the rails. Arguably nobody has more to lose by keeping athletes locked down than the Premier does. Bobby Smith can sell his team as a nice profit tomorrow and walk away from Nova Scotia and never look back. Tim Houston though...he absolutely might need some votes from the NDP-Liberal stronghold that HRM has become to keep his job as the pandemic winds down in 2-3 years. I think the province needs the sense of normalcy, the tax dollars and the premier needs the votes from people who want to see normalcy return more than Bobby Smith has to be in the black by summer of 2022. The Mooseheads are one of the strongest brands and businesses in the entire province when it comes to sports. I dont see a politician ending up ahead if he turns to spite as a way to handle returning to normal. Its not like any special concessions were made for them anyway but maybe I missed something along the way.

I've always wondered - approximately how much the Halifax Mooseheads' franchise would be worth if it was sold? Seriously - there's likely a few people here who could make a good estimate. . . I'd say it would be - maybe $2 Million?

Their goals of making us think they're all struggling definitely is working. www.tsn.ca/chl-franchises-worth-millions-can-afford-to-pay-players-study-1.522306 - Keep in mind this is 6 years old so inflation has added an 1-2% every year on some of these. Using the closest WHL/OHL comparables I would put the Mooseheads somewhere in the $20-$30 million range.

I'd say it would be - maybe $2 Million? Bobby bought roughly 52 to 55% back in 2003 to become the majority owner then. The rumoured price for that amount of what he paid was 5 to 5.5 million. He has since bought up more shares of the team and I believe he owns some where between 80 and 90% now. I mean this was almost 20 years ago and I don’t exactly remember all the details but I vaguely remember the herald having an article about Steele Autogroup looking like they were the front runner on the bidding and the rumour was they were bidding around 2.5 to 2.75. Then a few weeks later Bobby Smith came out as highest bidder and blew them out of the water. So that rumoured 5 to 5.5 was a bid for 55ish percent. Side bit of info I again vaguely remember when Bobby was announced as the highest bidder the Hearld ran an article about him and it said that this was his second attempt at buying a CHL team. I believe he was runner up on a WHL team back then.

AFTER TODAYS COVID-19 REPORT WHERE DOES THIS LEAVE THE ISLANDERS Apparently the provincial government polled a bunch of scientists who believe covid only spreads among athletes who gather in groups of 21 or more based on this one: Sport team practices can have up to 20 consistent individuals. This is seriously getting to be beyond nonsensical. The local Q team having 21-23 kids practicing isn't allowed...but if they have 19 or 20 its acceptable. Absolutely zero logic and even less common sense being demonstrated by these politicians. And also shows they take nothing about local businesses into account. You have 1 Q team and what 3-4 university and MHL teams yet 20 is the limit? Really hard to get behind any of this stuff at this point as there's zero science influencing a number like that. The entire team can go play floor hockey in an aisle at costco though lol

Holey Fukk - anybody got the number for Bell-Let's Talk? Hockey fans on PEI may soon need to put together a convoy. . .

I won't be shocked to see the Maritime teams all go to Quebec to play for a week.

I don't want to sound too serious or rebellious. We're going to need to follow whatever protocols our local health authorities put in place.
I do think that it's time for the people to start speaking out though.
What's it going to take - everybody with a proof card showing a needle every three months to go to Canadian Tire?

The biggest issue in all this is the big box stores have not had 1 actual regulation put in place outside of gathering limits that never really effected them. Meanwhile restaurants are screwed. Take out only meaning liquor sales are non-existent in some places. Which we all know kills the bottom lines. Athletes of any age of locked up and cant socialize or practice with teammates. High school athletes who rely on their schools to play the highest level of things like volleyball or basketball in local areas which can lead to scholarships are treated like they're going to be 16 for 4.5 years. But I can come and go from Costco with my entire family and go eat the cheap hot dogs and pizza there and never have anyone ask for proof of vaccination. My sports team that would be fined for gathering in our hockey rink can literally set up shop inside a Wal Mart together and there's no problems.

He also said that it's likely no fans would be allowed, so I doubt this would make much of a difference for Q teams.
