10 games in and the cats are closing in on a good problem; things are getting crowded. Pavan returns this weekend, Darcy/McPhee are close to rejoining the line-up and Bishop has been a pleasant surprise. 11 of last 12 points, what does the line up look like if everyone is healthy?

I thought Pavan had quit hockey? There's an article up in the T&T that hes returning this weekend. Obviously he wasn't with the team as he was not with the scratches at the Avenir. Perhaps he had a change of heart or personal situation. I dont really know how he fits on this roster though, I'd rather give Smith Mercier and Lounsbury the ice time. I could see him moving to CHA/BAT/SNB at Christmas, or perhaps even closer to home in Victoriaville or something.

At best it would be a dirt cheap acquisition for a late round pick. Pavan's trade value would be pretty limited. Doubt a contender would be interested.

I think they have some significant decisions to make going into the trade period.
1. Are you going all in on your core of 2020s? If so that makes next year the peak of the rebuild. Loshing/Filion/Iasenza/Auger/Taibel are all 19s. All are undrafted so the percentages lean toward most of them all potentially being available as 20yo's but you never really fully know. That could give them potentially a two year window.
2. The euro situation. What do you do with Barbashev? He is a late 2003 so being NHL drafted this is his last season I believe. Do they move him for assets for next year and beyond? He's not a superstar but is an impact player and would fetch a good return. How does that affect the team this year? What about Taibel? Is he in the plans for next season? He's slowly showing improvement but IMO you want much more production from your euros. Do they look at bringing in 2 new 19yo euros for a run next season? They won't have a real high euro pick. My guess would be somewhere in the 30-40 range. That doesn't always matter.
3. Is Filion your guy? He still has potential but progress has been slow. Are they confident they have a reliable starter for a run? Steinman has been great so far IMO and is also a 2004. Will he overtake Filion? Do they go 1A/1B? Do they add someone?
4. They have 2 first rd picks in the upcoming draft (including VD from Spence trade) - as well as future high picks. Using those picks doesn't really line up with the rest of the core. The team is solid but lacks superstar power which is needed in junior hockey. I can't see them using these picks or at least the 2 1sts will be drafted to be traded so to speak.
5. They have a good D core to build around but they are still young. Morin can play on the top pair at 18 next year (he is pretty much there now) but Grenier is still a bit unknown. Beyond that there's Iasenza that on a contender is probably a 2nd pairing guy. AFG would probably be used as a trade chip. So they would probably be looking at adding at least a star defenseman and probably someone for depth as well.
6. This year is not necessarily a throwaway year either. The team is pretty good. Not really a contender but they can do some damage. They seem to have good chemistry and a tight group. How much do you mess with that? In the past they have used 2nds or 3rds to add a marginally impactful 19yo in these sort of "in-between" years - will they do that again for the sake of trying to win an extra round?
7. Looking ahead to next seasons 20yos. Right now it looks like just Daniel and Darcy I think (unless I'm missing someone). I can't see Daniel going anywhere - He is the captain, he can play all situations, he is local, and his family contributes a ton to the team revenue wise. Where do they add/upgrade?

I see Pavan and MacPhee as the 13th and 14th forwards- not sure who they displace in the current lineup if everyone is healthy. MacPhee, wouldn't be surprised if he gets sent down. Darcy will force his way into the lineup, likely at the expense of playing time for Ballentyne/Marcil/Fortier-Gendron/Grenier .

I expect them to mostly stand pat this year, maybe a bit of tinkering at midseason. I think we will see a few off season moves to "go for it", maybe not all in at that point but add a piece or two at the draft. In terms of the 1st rounders, I think you draft the best players available, those may be moved at the mid season trading period if they go all in. The Euro and goalie situation will be interesting to follow. Being drafted, it's unlikely Barbashev is back, I expect them to draft a new Euro. In nets Filion will need to take his game up a notch or two.

Well pavan appears to no longer be on the roster Maybe a trade? He's at the rink. I don't think he's been listed on the roster since the preseason.

Anyone know if the injury to Steinman is serious or not? I know he finished the game but there was no way he was coming out with 24 seconds left unless he couldn’t stand up
