It is fair to assume that the 2022 pre-season roster on the Q site is a list of our pre-draft protected players. If that's the case, here's who we have on our protected list:
02
Zachary Roy Keiran Gallant Owen Saye Patrick LeBlanc Dawson Stairs William Trudeau Jeremie Biakabatuka Ryan Maynard Lukas Cormier Francesco Lapenna
03
Jakob Brabenec Ben Boyd Michael Horth Oscar Plandowski Matt McQuaid Oliver Satny Luke Vardy (Coquitlam Express BCHL) Ryan Greene (Green Bay Gamblers USHL, freshman at Boston University in 2022) Jacob Squires
04
Jarrett Todd Xavier Delage (Fresno Monsters USPHL elite) Jonah Jelley (Charlottetown Knights U18) Beran Simard-Sancy (Mount Academy U18) Brandon Crowell (Mount Saint Charles Academy U18) Isaac Vos (Charlottetown Knights U18)
05
Sam Bowness Anton Topilnyckyj (Fredericton Caps U18) Brett Arsenault (Charlottetown Knights U18) Nathan Mossey (Mount Saint Charles Academy U16) Jack Flanagan (Mount Academy U18) Mitchell Wagner (Yarmouth Mariners MHL) Kevin Walker (Cape Breton West U18) Jano Zambakidjian (Mount Academy U18) Dustin Riff (Brockville Braves U18) Denver Damphousse (Kent School HS) Noah Woodard (Magog Cantonniers U18) Nicholas Hui (Notre Dame Hounds U18) Ethan Gardula (Cushing Academy prep) Shawn Leary (Lawrence Academy prep)

There’s going to be lots of new faces and lots of opportunities starting this upcoming season for guys. Excited for this draft but with such few high picks it’s hard to get your hopes up too much but hopefully the staff find some gems out there in the late rounds.. I’d also expect more free agents invited to camp this year more so than the last couple years.

Excited to see how Topilnyckyj shows next camp. They seem to be pretty high on him......and everything you here scouts say about him are positive things.

Anyone know what happened or didn’t happen with the Biakabutuka to CB? Fake news? Or is that happening tomorrow? It’s just seemed like there was a lot smoke to that rumour. On both boards this one and CB’s.

TRADE | We have acquired PEI native Jacob Squires from the Cape Breton Eagles in exchange for a draft pick in 2024. Welcome home, Jacob! t.co/rjOsiWbBflJacob Squires did not hide his emotions when discussing the opportunity to play for his hometown Charlottetown Islanders. “I was pretty pumped,” Squires told SaltWire Network. “I get to come home to an organization over the past couple of years that has solidified themselves in the league. “(General manager and head coach) Jim (Hulton) and the staff have done an unbelievable job. To be able to come home means a lot.” “Jacob is obviously a local product, a kid we liked dating back to his draft year,” said Hulton. “We’ve followed him closely and when the opportunity presented itself to add him, we jumped at it. “He gives us leadership, gives us experience and helps us with some of the losses we have.” “I’m here to bring a leadership role and help the younger guys,” said Squires, who added the Eagles have a lot of defencemen and he was not surprised by the trade. “Every year I kind of developed, got a little bit better and brought a little bit more to my game each year. “I want to do more of the same thing, bring a two-way game and be one of those guys in the dressing room who helps out, and show the young guys the way.”

The Islanders also traded veteran forward Patrick Guay to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada for third- and fourth-round picks in 2022 and two thirds and a fourth-round pick in 2023.
Hulton said the Guay trade was part of the Zac Roy deal in January.
“We fought hard to try and keep Patrick, and there are more elements of that trade that will come down the road,” said Hulton. “It’s a huge loss, but you can’t have it both ways. You can’t take a run at a championship and retain all your players.”
Should the 20-year-old Guay, a 55-goal scorer in the 2021-22 regular season, end up playing outside the QMJHL next year, Hulton said there is insurance in place to cover both teams.

Sounds like you guys get more(2023 pick?) if Guay is in the Q and you owe BBA more if he is not in the Q...

18, 6'2 185lbs, over a ppg in Ontario? I'd say a good bet to make our team if he wants to move to PEI.

Finally we’re a place that guys from across the country want to come play for. Huge credit to Jim and the rest of the staff right to the owners for turning around the franchise to what it used to be.
Someone posted a mock line up and it made me want to throw up…but mix in a few guys from Ontario and we should be competitive Atleast. We know Jim will always have a hard working team.
