Shame that the Titan are destined to leave. I feel for all the fans living their and supporting the team, to have it moved without having a chance to stop it really. If the Titan move in 2028 (random example year), does Bathurst get a Q team again? Or does another team go somewhere else in the Maritimes (Fredericton, Turo, Summerside, ??) or even into New Hampshire/Maine? I can see us getting a Jr. A team if the Titan leave. The KC Irving is an amazing rink and atmosphere and there's still lots of people who love hockey here. Now Jr. A doesn't bring the same level of excitement or competitiveness but if Miramichi can run a somewhat successful Jr. A team I'm sure we could eventually as well. The town also has basketball starting somewhat soon which will bring some new interest. It would take a LOT to bring a team back here once they leave...

I'm moving to Moncton in less than a month for the next 2 years, so looks like I'll be taking in some Wildcat games

The big difference between Jr.A and QMJHL is you don't need any more than 1,000 fans a night to break even and in a "big" market like Bathurst they can ice a pretty competitive team most years with decent playoff runs where they could bring in 2,000+ fans.

St. John's is an odd market. The people love thinking they're watching pro hockey no matter what level and a lot of those same people view CHL as high school kids no matter how many high end players pass through the league. I'll never understand why they give ECHL and other leagues huge support yet look down on the CHL. This was the case in 2005. After 13 years with the AHL. While the Growlers are "popular", it doesn't really translate to ticket sales. I think people here realize the hockey is not great. If the Q ever returned here I think it would do quite well. The attitude you speak about has passed with time.

Agreed - non-story IMO. No owner is ever going to come out and say they hope to leave in X amount of time. If and when the team leaves, it will only be confirmed by ownership shortly before or after the final home game has been played. Well, i think Lewistons owner did say he was moving the team and it didnt work out very well for him lol

It only said
confirms the team would stay put for its 25th anniversary season
So that is only next year .... I don't see no long terme commitment there...

Well if the team doesn't sell tickets to even break even a move is going to happen. People either want to come to games or they don't. 1700 seats per gamer isn't cutting it. Last year Bathurst had a good team and they struggled to get 1900 per game. If you don't have fans then the writing is on the wall, no one can criticize the team for possibly moving.

yeah I think it's a losing battle at this point sadly. The city of Bathurst mayor put a post on Facebook today regarding the team moving as well and stated they did what they basically could on their end to try to keep the team here.
it's very unfortunate to those 1500 fans who love this team and going to the rink but we couldn't get that extra 1000 back we've lost over the years.
it's been a ride and at least I can say I watched the team lift the cup in 2018 and it was one of my favorite moments of all time and I'll always cherish that.
also getting to see some high drafted NHL talent in Dobson, Kidney, Lapierre, Rubtsov, etc. was awesome.
Junior hockey will always be my favorite alongside the NHL.

Article in Acadie Nouvelle - Sean Coutourier states that he no longer wants his name associated with the team. Has been trying to sell his shares back to the other shareholders but has been refused to date. I'm sure that the way his dad was treated prior to leaving the team has left a very sour taste in his mouth...

I'm not sure why Titan Ownership or Serge Thériault thought this press release was a good idea.

The city of Bathurst said that they did what they could on their end but what did they do exactly?
Did they explored the way that Baie-Comeau run/own their Q team?
For a small market like Bathurst, That's what should be done...

For a small market like Bathurst, That's what should be done... One key distinction between the two would be the franchise values at the time ... I believe Baie-Comeau has been community owned for a long time - perhaps since the beginning?? The city of Baie Comeau likely didn't have to pay $3 million for a franchise. I get that you can quibble what a franchise is worth, but the current owners likely paid something in that range to acquire the team, and they are not likely to just hand it over to the city to run without getting most if not all of their investment back - especially if there is another interested party willing to buy it from them.

For a small market like Bathurst, That's what should be done... Local municipalities are mostly broke as well. They generally can't get involved in investing in businesses where the downside is massive. Are you all willing to pay more taxes or higher water bills so the local team can break even? I think we know where that conversation ends up.
