Yeah certainly a possibility, but realistically he doesn’t have the skill to be a top 9 player on a AUS team. Maybe he could crack the 4th line somewhere I guess

I heard he is playing for SMU. I think the rumours are correct. AUS money usually covers tuition and a little extra but it’s not a ton of money.
Maybe he just got tired of the grid. A bus trip or 2 to Val dor will do that to you. Plus last 2 years of Covid haven’t made hockey all that fun. The day of fighting are over in hockey so maybe he saw the writing on the wall.

Last game he played was game 4 of the President’s Cup final. He took a viscous headshot from Zach Massicotte. Something like that probably gets a guy thinking about his future in hockey, perhaps?

Does anyone know who is left in camp with this team? Apparently it’s somewhat of a mystery as no one knows for sure. Quite annoying as far as information being released from the Isles.

roster seems to be out on the qmjhl website. If that is the roster they are carrying alot of players I think it's like that because there's some uncertainty around a few of the guys "expected" to be on the roster, mainly the OA situation. There was also rumors of Boyd potentially not being back to pursue other opportunities

In addition to Wagner being assigned to Jr. A, Murchison was also recently released from training camp.
By my count, here's who we should have remaining in camp.
FW
Arsenault Morneau Brabenec Boyd-? Romeo Rutledge Todd Stairs/Leblanc/Gallant Jelley Horth Bowness Michaud Allen Anselmini
D
Trudeau/Biakabatuka Vos Kearsey Squires Simard-Sancy Tessier Topilnyckyj
G
Lapenna Satny Flanagan
This group has to be awfully close to the final roster. There are a few things to settle.
-The 20 y/o situation....The news of Guay signing an AHL deal in the Vegas system strongly points to the need to send another 20 y/o player to the Armada... likely Trudeau. Then in all likelihood our 20 y/o group for the year starts as Gallant/Biakabatuka/Lapenna
-We're still looking for clarity on the Ben Boyd situation. It far fetched to imagine a drafted NHL prospect leaving major junior at 19 to pursue university hockey, but there's enough talk about this to suggest it is withing the realm of possibility. We'll watch to see if Boyd is participating in with the Blue Jackets in the Traverse City tournament this week.
-It is no secret there is a desire to see Jack Flanagan in major junior sooner rather than later. The team also seems content to play Lapenna in the first half of the year to boost his trade value. Do they carry 3 goaltenders for the first half of the season? That's an awkward situation for the youngster who likely doesn't play much.

It's been a few years since we had this many rookies cracking the lineup. It will be interesting to see how Hulton does with this true rebuild.
Back in 2018 we sort of had half a rebuild going and then the team surprised everyone on that magical run to game 7 of the semi's vs Armada.
It could be a long season no doubt but I am confident with Hulton behind the bench they will be battling all season long.
If rumors are true about Boyd that is kind of a blow to the lineup he does bring that strong physical element to the game and he will be missed especially on a team with a bunch of rookies. Although as I well find it very hard to believe he is drafted and choose to play University hockey. But maybe that hit did more then we think if he did reconsider due to the hit he received I don't think he will find university hockey less physical as they hit heavy and hard. I heard someone say well he will never make it to the NHL and he knows that, But look at Drew prime example what hard work and dedication can do. I really hope we do see him with the Islanders this season although it does look slim has anyone even seen him around Camp?
