So Hulton said both teams were protected
Guay isn't coming back (great for him)... we certainly owe BBA something in exchange however the deal on draft day certainly was very much a lowball deal..... any chance we might send them Trudeau as an example (assuming he comes back) and their placeholder pick back for a real value of draft picks in exchange?
i hope so....
otherwise like others said we lost more valuable rebuilding capital
i actually have a feeling we will be better this year than people think....... but it's because we are plugging holes with free agent finds and late draft picks that are capable of playing in this league..... in order to get back to competing we will need to stock some actual high picks for ourselves or for trade capital to acquire stars when it's time

This is exactly right. I'll always be an optimist that Jim can make his group do better on the ice than everybody else thinks. But to be at a spot where you have a contending team like we did last year you need those guys who are picked inside the top 10 in their draft year... you either acquire them via trade and pay a big price, or have the high picks and select and develop the right players. Look at the top 10 from 2018 (so players who were 19 last season. 1. Lapierre - traded to Bathurst (contender) 2. Villeneuve - drafted and developed by Memorial Cup host SJ 3. Bourque - drafted and developed by Presidents Cup champ Shaw 4. Cormier - drafted and developed by us 5. Guay - traded to us 6. Dufour - traded to Memorial Cup host SJ 7. Rochette - traded to Quebec (contender) 8. Poirier - drafted and developed by Memorial Cup host SJ 9. PO Roy - drafted and developed by Quebec (contender) 10. Alex Drover - only guy in the top 10 who isn't a Also in the first round were impactful players like Charles Beaudoin, Josh Lawrence, Biakabatuka, and Elliot Desnoyers. You have to have a way to put those top end talent guys on your team if you are serious about winning the championsip. So Hulton said both teams were protected Guay isn't coming back (great for him)... we certainly owe BBA something in exchange however the deal on draft day certainly was very much a lowball deal..... any chance we might send them Trudeau as an example (assuming he comes back) and their placeholder pick back for a real value of draft picks in exchange? i hope so.... otherwise like others said we lost more valuable rebuilding capital i actually have a feeling we will be better this year than people think....... but it's because we are plugging holes with free agent finds and late draft picks that are capable of playing in this league..... in order to get back to competing we will need to stock some actual high picks for ourselves or for trade capital to acquire stars when it's time

In the here and now, we can all agree it is drag that Guay is now a pro and we owe BBA even more assets. But big picture this is more great news for our awesome team.
When Guay arrived here in his 18 y/o season he was coming off a so-so 17 y/o draft year where he was injured for part of the year. His 18 y/o season was limited play due to covid. He rattled off a 19 y/o season for the ages... lots of 19 y/o's break out but it doesn't often translate to pro opportunity after junior hockey.
We've seen in recent years....
-Guay get drafted at 19 and jump right to pro at 20 with Vegas -Trudeau emerge as a late Q draft pick and get picked in the NHL draft and warrant consideration by Hockey Canada -Ben Boyd picked as a late round flier by Columbus based on his size, physical play and ability to skate -PO Joseph emerge as a first round NHL selection after being a 5th round pick in the Q draft. -Hunter Drew land as an out of region free agent only to be drafted at 19 and make it to the NHL.
This organization is one that develops players to be ready to be professionals. The hockey world takes notice that guys who play for the Charlottetown Islanders are worth considering for jobs in pro hockey.

Boyd is playing for CBJ right now in Traverse City. So he's still a pro prospect. No organization under the sun would ask him to play university level hockey at this point in his development.
I'm sure he's here with us to begin the season.

Looks like Biakabutuka is with Detroit at the Prospects Tournament. He wasn't on the original roster they announced.

On these boards in recent years we've taken many shots (sometimes fair and sometimes unfair) at the regression of coverage of the QMJHL... both by local media and the league itself. Check out this 2022-23 Islanders preview from the OFFICIAL LEAGUE WEBSITE! theqmjhl.ca/article/our-18-the-2022-2023-charlottetown-islandersIf you read this article, you'd be led to believe that the Islanders will carry 5 20 y/o players this season! Yikes!! Official website. I can't believe it!!

Mueller is a dual citizen (not an import) and they had talked about Barbashev earlier in the article. Seems like they were all prepared by someone who just looked at the rosters and elite prospects website

Stairs in the lineup today... I guess if one 20yr old is likely going to BLB that opens a spot for one of the "extra" ones to stick with the team.
Edit.. Tweet was deleted.

Today's posted lineup has 20 y/o's Gallant, Stairs, and LeBlanc playing.
We've also got a new player in camp.... Jack O'Donnell.....17 y/o forward out of Ontario.
6'2" and 183 lb.
Last season he played with Elmira in the GOJHL (Jr. B league) and scored 2-7-9 in 38 games.... 71 PIM too.

For those who have been watching camp and the pre-season games I'm wondering how the following players have looked so far;
Giovanni Morneau Alexis Michaud Lucas Romeo Robbie Rutledge Will Allen Beren Simard-Sancy
