Agree. I don’t see the logic in trading a defence man who likely has 2.5 years left in the league and then immediately turning around and trading the majority of that return for another, likely worse, defence man. At that point, why even trade Iasenza. Essentially, are 2 3rd round picks worth getting a worse or older player? I’d be ok moving the 3rd for an established Dman. But trading the 1st would feel more like a lateral move I have no problem with them trading a 3rd for a depth defenceman. That’s the price for those type of guys, but it would make no sense to trade the first.

Maybe there is more to it than first glance …
Perhaps Iasenza asked to be dealt closer to home?
Hinkley’s name has been rumoured to the Maritimes - perhaps we see the Cats turn around and basically turn Iasenza into Hinkley?

I read Victoriaville's GM mentioning there were 4-5 teams after Iasenza. Maybe Thibeau wanted to take advantage of his high value right now?

I assume Hackett will be their 7th d-man? My gut tells me the Sherbrooke 1st will be flipped for some help on D. Kind of defeats the purpose of trading Iasenza.

I am just spitballing … maybe the target is someone else … and a pick or two included in either direction could bridge the value gap in the players … just saying sometimes there are behind the scenes stuff going on that influences some of these trades - especially the ones that don’t make sense on the surface.

I’m sure the trades are somewhat connected, even if not directly so basically the Wildcats moved: 2.5 years of Iasenza 2023 6th 2024 5th 2025 2nd For 1.5 years of Plandowski 2023 1st 2023 3rd 2025 3rd

I think the only way they touch one of the 1sts next year it'd be for a guy like Marchon from BBA, other than that I'd keep them.

Honestly, not a bad pick up for you guys. Hopefully Plandowski can bounce back in the 2nd half of the season and he should return as an OA next year as well. He will be a solid mentor for the young D.

With the Plandowski acquisition I can’t see Hinkley coming here now. They either preferred Plandowski in spite of being a year older, or Hinkley was never an option in the first place. Part of the reason they moved out Darcy and Iasenza was to open up ice time - so two out and one in would make sense.
