This is the 4th build/rebuild the franchise has had. I think this one will look a lot different than the previous ones. I think next season will be the best season 2 of a build this team has had (the bar is extremely low), but then we might peak in year 3 with the peak not being as high as the other cycles.
I'm a lot more excited for 2023-2024 than I thought I would be after emptying the cupboards in 2021-2022. We got lucky with a few decent 2004 free agents. Burridge has been looking really good. But I've really been impressed with Bilodeau lately. He's starting to look like a bit of a steal as the 73rd pick from 2021.

I think our future looks good! The boys are not getting blown away in 10 goal games like we did last time. The games are close. its 5-3, or 3-2 games not 7-1. I think if they can get in and get a bit of experience in a couple playoff games it can help for the future. But I am very excited to see what next season brings with this team!

Burbidge and Reinhart have been way better than expected.
Bilodeau and Richard both need to work on their skating.
Ianniello and Tivey were also excellent finds.
Benoit has done an admirable job in his 20 games here (.5 PPG jumping up at 17).
Elie was doing well, but seemed to run out of gas.
If we use one import pick in June/July, we could run something like:
Simek/Mateiko - Reynolds - Reinhart Euro - Burbidge - Benoit Thifault - Bellemare/Ballard/Laforge - Elie Calder - Beaulieu - Ballard/Bellemare/Laforge Picks
Tivey - Ianniello Bilodeau - Cosman/other OA Richard - DaSylva/Biakabutuka
Shingarov Brideau Robinson

Burbidge and Reinhart have been amazing! I think Bilodeau has been doing a great job, both in scoring and in defence. It was hard to tell with Richard. We didn't see much of him and when we did he was very slow. I know he is young but not sure if he is ready for this level. I agree Tivey and Ianniello are both amazing finds and doing a great job. Players we can build this team around! Benoit has been really fitting in well. Up on line two the other night he was just flying! Simek and Mateiko are both doing very well and are a big help to the young lineup Beaulieu has been doing very well as a 16 year old especaily in the roll he is playing, wont back down from anyone So moving forward. Do you think Shingarov will be back as a 20year old next season or are we better off going with someone else? I think the Euros we have are doing a great job I am very excited to see what next season brings

This was by far the best free agent crop we've seen since the Beaulieu days.
Breaking down next year's roster, we have:
Reynolds (will he be moved?), Burbidge, and Reinhart who realistically performed as top 6 forwards this year.
Both Mateiko and Simek played like top 6 forwards after Christmas.
After that, there is a group of Elie/Benoit/Thifault who might be able to step into top 6 roles.
Below them, Laforge seems like a lock to be on the 3rd line (and wearing a letter). Others potentially competing for these spots include Ballard/Bellemare/Calder/Beaulieu/Casey/Szczerba.
On D, we could return Tivey, Ianniello, Bilodeau, Akkouche, Cosman, Richard before we do anything else (with Da Sylva potentially also fighting for a spot).
In nets, we have Shingarov and Brideau returning.
If we could add a couple of free agents, things could come together nicely.

I wasnt sure on Shingarov going before the playoffs but he really proved himself in those games. It would be nice to see Brideau get a more time to show off what he can do also. I like Akkouche on D, I know he is a forward but he fit in so well back on D. Tivey, Ianniello, Bilodeau are an amazing group! I am excited to see the younger crew come back a bit more mature next year. The players that really stood out this year like you talked about Brubidge Mateiko and Smiek, Benoit ect. The roughness of Beaulieu that he showed in the plaoffs I think can be a big key moving forward.

You wouldn't know it because the team hasn't posted anything, but Mateiko is wearing the C for Latvia at the U18s which got underway today.

I believe we have the 11th pick in the euro draft should we draft a forward or defenseman.

I believe we have the 11th pick in the euro draft should we draft a forward or defenseman. There's a short list of players that would make sense If Hrabal were ever willing to give up his NCAA commitment, he is #1. I understand that he is an 05 goalie and that is far from a need, but he would instantly step into the league as the best goalie (chances: as close to 0 as it gets) Jiricek is Czechia's #1 D at the U18 as an underager. He has a very similar skillset to his brother. He's also likely to play full-time in the men's league next year if he stays (chances: almost non-existent) Ustinkov is arguably the Swiss #1 D. His skillset looks a bit like Zboril's. Looking quickly at the standings, Edmonton is likely to make a deal with either him or Pobezal (3rd overall pick) Pobezal is another highly skilled Slovak. At 17, he is playing on Slovakia's top line at the U18s. While Ustinkov should (and hopefully will) avoid every team above SJ not named Edmonton like the plague, Pobezal could actually make sense for anyone. If any of these 4 were to say yes, I would say that an import spot would be opened without question. After that, there are some names like Muggli, Jecho, Ansons, Maruna who could be interesting. Obviously, I am not a scout and this is arm-chair GMing, but I feel comfortable that the first 4 would all be upgrades over the impact of Mateiko/Simek next year (and going forward) and that the latter group are 16s who could be better (not an exhaustive list by any stretch). Something to keep in mind is that while we have the 11th overall pick, both of our imports looked very good down the stretch, which makes it a very difficult decision unless someone is available that jumps off the page.

The upcoming Q draft is an important one where we have no 1st and limited picks.
There seem to be quite a few high end NB kids and nearly every one not from Moncton is leaning NCAA right now.
SJ needs to get players in the hopes of a more even age spread.
