Since other teams have started, I thought I'd take a look at our potential outlook:
Picks: 2Mon-2BC-4Vic-6-10-11-13-14
Eligible to return players:
20: Reynolds Shingarov Cosman Cournoyer Despont
19: Tivey Laforge Reinhart Ianniello Akkouche Ballard Casey
18: Burbidge Elie Thifault Bilodeau Brideau Simek (I) Mateiko (I) Benoit
17: Richard Beaulieu
Other interesting names that could be on next year's team: Biakabutuka, Dassylva, Bellemare, Calder, Robinson
At this point, Reynolds is the only OA that is locked in. Whether we keep Shingarov or not depends on our faith in other goalies and how well they show. Cosman could be caught in a numbers game. Also, there is a possibility that we bring in one or more OA.
A possible too early lineup (assuming we don't draft in the import draft and keep Reynolds, Cosman, and Shingarov as OA):
Mateiko - Reynolds - Elie Simek - Burbidge - Reinhart Thifault - Casey/Laforge/Ballard - Benoit 2nd rounder - Bellemare - Beaulieu Calder Casey/Laforge/Ballard/Szczerba
Tivey - Cosman Ianniello - Akkouche Bilodeau - Richard Biakabutuka Dickie
Shingarov Brideau Robinson?

Reynolds should hold some trade value with your lack of picks i'd be moving him at the draft

I can't see Reynolds being here next year, and I think that Despont was wanting to play pro in Europe. It's tough to say who will be here and what trades if any would be made over the summer. I have to say I like the little sparks of the future that you see coming from this young team. Tivey is doing very well back on D. Laforge taking a leadership roll and working his butt off every game. Akkouche is really impresive playing back on D this year. Only seen Casey and Ballard for a few games but both look to be great aditions In the 18s, every one of those guys is impressing me. And the 17s Beaulieu just wont back down from anyone no matter what the size, and his game play is getting better and better each game. I know this year has not been the best year but really, a lot of games have been in reach or atleast entertaining and not 10-0 blow outs like in the last rebuild. Im excited to see what this team can do in the future!

In comparison to the second half of the 2017-18 season (post Memorial Cup run) I think the team is in a much better position, even though the picks situation is similar.
Looking at the roster from the end of 2017-18 they had only had three players still with the team two seasons later in 2019-20: Deakin-Poot, and then MacIntosh and Sibley for half a season each. That's a massive portion of the roster that needs to be filled via draft picks, FAs and trades. Much of the core for that next run came in the 2018 draft with Villeneuve, Poirier, Lawrence, Burns, DesRoches, etc. That was a great draft and 2017-18 resulted in some blockbuster trades (Veleno), but it did little in terms of developing and solidifying guys already in the system for the future.
Outside of possibly the Euros, and not taking into account any trades, I'd see Burbidge, Elie, Thifault, Bilodeau, Brideau, Richard, Beaulieu, and maybe Tivey still here to start the 2024-25 season. That's night and day compared to the previous cycle.

We are definitely picking at least one euro if the standings stay the way they are we would have the 2nd overall pick.

Reinheart Burbidge Bilodeau Tivey Elie
Are all quietly having somewhat solid seasons considering where they were drafted or signed as free agents.
They could have even bigger years next season.

Both Burridge and Ellie were 2nd Rd picks and I see two players going in different directions Burridge has great potential and could be a star at 19. Ellie has had many chances to prove himself on top line and pp minutes he just seems to be always out of position and gives the puck up when things get physical hopefully his play improves and have noticed his ice time get less the last few games.

I've been impressed with Brideau every time he's been in net. His stats aren't great because of 16GA in 2 games against Victo and Halifax but he played well in the the game against Halifax despite 9 goals allowed and gave them a chance to win.
He played very well in the win over Moncton as well.

There’s a lot to be excited about with the young guys here. I’m hoping they can continue to impress and make the playoffs, it would be a big stepping stone for them.

I think they have a strong shot at not only making a playoff spot but moving up a few spots. If they play like they did this past weekend they have a lot of games that could be won.

Potential is still there. It's just nice to see players like these come in and do well or better than expected especially when you're a last place team and have the cupboards completely bare from the all-in championship...makes the games still exciting.
