To the surprise of no one, Alexis Cournoyer will not be returning to the Sea Dogs and will be playing for the Prince George Spruce Kings of the BCHL. This renders him ineligible to play in any other sanctioned hockey in Canada if, for some reason, he is released from the Spruce Kings.

Per Kevin Barrett of Postmedia....
to the surprise of some.. Ventsislav Shingarov has been released.
The Sea Dogs are inviting overagers Alexis Brisson and Mathis Cloutier to training camp. That leaves a crowded field of 2003 born players with Brisson and Cloutier joining Peter Reynolds, Jared Cosman and Mathis Gauthier

I'm not quite sure why Brisson and Cloutier were available

Wait, players who are released by BCHL teams can't return to their previous teams? Ex. Let's say Bobby Button plays for the West Kent Steamers but signs with the Chilliwack Chiefs in the off-season, he can't return to the MHL?

Since BCHL left Hockey Canada they are considered an outlaw league and any player that suits up for a game is ineligible to play for any league under Hockey Canada. Same goes with referees, coaches, etc.

Also, anybody in the BCHL is ineligible for IIHF tournaments, because eligibility requires that you play in a league associated with a member nation.

How long does that ineligibility last? Let’s say Bobby Button eventually plays senior hockey as an adult. Can he play for a senior team under Hockey Canada’s umbrella that would be competing for the Allen Cup? And what about University Sports? Are they under the Hockey Canada umbrella or is USports a completely separate entity? Wait, players who are released by BCHL teams can't return to their previous teams? Ex. I believe that Sep 1 traps you outside of Hockey Canada (and likely USA Hockey for the same reason). As soon as the season ends, you would be free again.
