Disappointed to see him go. Was really looking forward to seeing what he could do this year, but can't complain about that return.

Great return. Blainville pick could be a lottery pick. Imagine the hate š

On the one hand, this one stings a lot. Burbidge was one of our better players last year.
On the other, we just upped our pick bank. Gatineau is arguably the worst team in the league on paper right now and BLB is coming off a season where they finished 3rd worst.

I'm not quite sure why Brisson and Cloutier were available Why wouldn't they be? They appear to be of the commonly released 20 year old variety we see every year. Neither guy has ever managed to play a full 68 games. Neither guy has managed even 35 points in a season. I'm not very familiar with either player. One might be a great leader and an awesome fit for our team. Just saying on paper both guys look like a typically available in the pre-season some team's fourth best thus the odd man out 20 year old.

Both would be their previous team's 2nd best LW. For BLB, you could argue that Brisson is 4th best OA, but Cloutier looked comfortably within VDO's top 3.

Our build-up was unsustainable. We have some good 05s, but our 06 group's top player was a 3rd rounder, meaning that there would be a dip behind them. Burbidge was by far our best 05 and someone that will step into your top 6 immediately. Something to keep in mind is that he didn't see a lot of bottom pairing D as a rookie, because he was our best or 2nd best C for almost the entire season.

Hate to say a good young player like Burbridge dealt. But weāre a boom/bust team, and he doesnāt fit our cycle. So while Iām slightly disappointed to see him go, the return is šš¼šš¼ so Iām good with it.

I'm not thrilled that he got traded, but given that he was traded I'm very pleased with the return. While this 2005 core wouldn't peak as high as our other cycles have, I thought we had a pretty solid group along with a few decent older players. Was looking forward to seeing them progress with him being one of the main pieces. I'm kind of tired of the extreme cyclical approach this team has taken. I was fine with it for a while but thought/hoped that now that we've hosted the Memorial Cup and won it, that maybe it was time to move on from that approach. It will always be cyclical to some extent but it doesn't have to be as extreme. Also if we were going to trade him, I'd have preferred to have done so at the draft for a trade of similar value with at least one pick being in 2023. Are Bilodeau and others for sale now too I wonder? Or was this simply a matter of receiving an offer too good to turn down.

Havenāt you enjoyed the championships weāve witnessed? Youāre tired of this? Not me.

Itās the ultimate goal but itās also been 6 seasons since the teams been to the 2nd round.. at some point, youād probably like to see them do that. Now thereās a botched Memorial Cup playoff run in there and a league championship that preceded that rebuild so itās easy to see why itās been so long but if my money is paying to watch these games year after year, I can understand some of the frustration with the feast or famine approach.

It looks like we are planning to be worse in 2024 in the hope that more draft picks make us better in 2026/2027??? I agree that this all or bust strategy makes it difficult in the three "down" years. On the other hand there are plenty of mediocre to good teams that never win a championship.

The 05 group seemed to be overachieving, but our 06 group is thin. Our top pick, Richard, barely played at 16 and needs to work on his skating (but otherwise could become a solid D). After that, there is a lot of unknown in the group but we didn't take anyone above the 3rd round.
In a perfect world, one of Cloutier/Brisson steps up and becomes a top 6 option for the team, so we can run something like: Cloutier/Brisson - Reynolds - Reinhart Simek - Mateiko - Elie/Beveridge
as a top 6.
There are spots to be had at every position, but the shell is decent. We'll lose our 20s (and some 19s), but if we get some invites like last year (and can do the same next year), the "down" might not be anywhere near as pronounced. Keep in mind that the picks we are relying on actually belong to other teams.

If they want to fill the draft picks then Bilodeau and Elie are probably the next to leave.

New to the form. Does the team have allot of returning players? It looks like the team has a solid group on D. Is the teams goaltender going to steal you some wins?
