It will be interesting to see how things play out with Jacques.
I agree he has looked to fit in pretty well in his 4 game audition this weekend. This is a guy who has some experience in the league. The best I can figure is that when he joined Victo as a 16 y/o, he'd been playing in the US, so maybe he was NCAA bound and decided to come home to play. At 17, he seemed to fall down the depth chart for Victo as they put together a team to contend. Remember, they did make trades last season to pick up Francesco Iasenza and Frederic Brunet, and these moves would have pushed 17 y/o Jacques off the roster.
We acquired him late in the trade period, then he got suspended after one game, and he was likely up against the CEGEP registration deadline too. Maybe he didn't get a fair look?
But I don't think Jim runs with 8 defencemen. For now, as long as Hinkley is out with a concussion, we probably see Jacques stick around. Conrad returned to the lineup on Monday and hopefully all is good there.
It's mentioned that it could put Vos' status in question, if potentially we keep Jacques with our club. Vos is 19 and probably isn't in the mix to be a 20 y/o next season. He's done all he's been asked of and there have been numerous times he's played up the lineup out of necessity. If we are in a pinch, Vos can play a spot on the PP, and he's even taken a few reps at forward when we've been down bodies there. One of of our broadcasters (not sure which one) referred to him as a Swiss Army knife in that he can kind of assume any role Jim assigns him. The risk with sending him to Jr. A is that he is useful to have on our roster in the case of injuries/suspensions.
I do really like the idea of keeping Jacques as part of our defence core moving forward. I guess it's a good problem to have when you call up a guy and he ends up looking really good!
He has 2pts in 3gp.
Before the call up, he has 7pts in 6gp with the Edmundston Blizzard of the MHL.
He's also just 18yrs old.

From what I have seen from Alexis Jacques, I think he can play a regular role on this team.
