Romeo out, Will Shields in đ¤ I wonder what happened to Romeo. He was a good piece to this team and suddenly he was constantly a scratch and getting minimal ice time. Probably nothing. He's a FA who's bringning in Shields, which is great for you guys in what seems to be a win-win situation. Now, Shields is also a RW, and the Isle can already replace Romeo.

I think the Isles would have to add big time if it was just one for one. Not sure if youâre just throwing it out there or if thereâs any truth to it, but, we could see a larger deal involving those two potentially. Horth Romeo Picks? Vs Shields Shortall Picks? aside from draft pedigree why would the Isles have to add bigtime? both players are playing their 2nd season of major junior hockey..... both players had fairly strong first seasons and have seemingly not progressed from that Romeo is a year older and much bigger...... seemingly would fit perfectly into Cape Bretons plans for this year and next better than a 17 year old who finds himself on the 4th line or the pressbox since when did buyers get a discount at Christmas? if this deal happens I can't see the Isles adding much more than a mid round pick if anything at all The real discount would be picking up last year's 11th overall pick for an older Ontario FA. It just doesn't make any sense to move Shields for that little of a return, some sort of value is going to have to come back the other way to compensate, even if both players are struggling on their current teams.

What value does he have though ? Wasnât performing at the level expected so you have to try and improve your team and I believe cape improves by adding Romeo for two more seasons.
Seems like a deal that benefits both teams honestly and helps both kids maybe find there game again and contribute

Romeo and 2026 3rd round pick for Shields.
Wouldâve been nice to make that a later pick but this trade has great potential to hit it big for us.
Hopefully Hulton can help Shields hit his ceiling.

Seems like heâs a bit streaky, but heâd be a great 3rd liner on a contender who could slide up to the second line when needed.

âWe are very excited to welcome a player of Williamâs caliber to our young rosterâ, commented Hulton. âBefore the 2022 draft, he was regarded as the top Nova Scotia-born player available. He has high skill, plays with grit, and fits perfectly into our age group that we are building around.â
âWeâre excited to give Will a fresh start in Charlottetownâ, said Hulton. âWe are excited about Willâs potential and to see how he gels with our young core.â

I like the addition of Shields. He's been a top goal scorer and point producer his whole career. He had a good 16yr old season with CB last year putting up 25pts...but as we all know, he has struggled this season......and it could be due to a lot of reasons. He's going to get a good opportunity here in Charlottetown and an opportunity to get his game back on track working with Hulton. His impressive career stat lines look like this: www.eliteprospects.com/player/711556/william-shields

His impressive career stat lines look like this: www.eliteprospects.com/player/711556/william-shieldsI think you guys have the right to be excited, given Hulton's track record of player development. Personally I'm very happy to be rid of him here, this year he just seemed to be going through the motions and had been passed over and outplayed by multiple players on our depth chart. I don't know if it's an adjustment to not being a top guy like he was at prep or not, but I think Hulton will have to prioritize him as a top 6 player full time, instead of earning that ice to really get anything out of him. He can skate well, but he hasn't shown any real scoring touch or playmaking ability to make up for the lack of size and grit that I've seen so far anyway. I expected a leap forward with this being his draft year, but he's taken multiple steps back this season so far. All the best for him and the Islanders in the future for his development.

Last time we pried a 17 y/o player out of Cape Breton it worked wellâŚLaaouan.
Hope we see the same kind of development from Shields.

While Shields admits he was taken by surprise when the trade was announced, heâs excited to get to work with his new team.
âI know this team is a close-knit group that goes to battle for each other every night and wants to win. They win underdog games with heart and have a great coach behind the bench leading them,â said Shields.
The 17-year-old Falmouth, Nova Scotia native is ready to embrace his new home.
âIâm excited, always intrigued to explore new things and opportunities. Prince Edward Island is a beautiful place too with lots of great people and support,â said Shields.
âCape had targeted Lucas as a player of interest for quite a while and we had been back-and-forth for a long time. They were very reluctant to give up on a young player like Will but we werenât going to give up a quality player like Lucas without getting something back that fits our needs down the road with what weâre building towards,â said Hulton.
Hulton now looks forward to seeing his group begin to bond and mesh together on and off the ice.
âWe look at that â06 age group and itâs something weâve consciously targeted for a while. Upfront now with Butler, Campbell, Michaud and now Shields, there is a core to build around and let them grow here for a couple of years.â
âIâve always known what Iâm capable of and now Iâm excited to show Charlottetown what I can do. I look at it as a positive opportunity for myself,â said Shields.
