Arsenault's best attribute is his skating. He's a great skater, but his offense hasn't really developed. I think the Islanders were looking to see more production out of him as an 18 y/o player. He's mostly played 3rd/4th line minutes for us this season but really hasn't seen his offensive game take off. Brett Arsenault to Rimouski for an 8th. What kind of F is he? I know he's more on the gritty side and probably seen as a fan favorite when he came in. What can he bring to the Oceanic? Tx!

He always had great energy. Going to miss that.

My hypothesis, he asked for a trade. New scenery and probably wants more ice time. All the best to him! I think a new team might do him some good!

Halifax brings in OA forward Lou Felix Denis from Shawinigan with Peitzsche part of the return.
Would have been an interesting deal to try to have Horth involved in, unfortunately.

Very weird, especially if we don’t end up bringing anyone else in…
The only logical thing is that he wants more playing time, this way he joins the Mem Cup host next year and plays with his good friend Luke Coughlin.

I'm not sure how others think, but I know personally if I was a player in the Q, despite being from PEI, it would be so cool to play in a new city. I love it here, but hard to go wrong with getting away for a few years.

welp that wasn't a very interesting trade period For me it was as expected. We have no pieces to move around that's worth doing. We have no picks. Here's to 24/25 that will be lack lustered as well. Junior hockey for ya.

Really surprised that we didn't see anything happen beyond the Arsenault trade. I really thought Horth would be moved.
It is hard to trade 20's and find the right match. Maybe we were in the mix on the trade that eventually brought Lou-Felix Denis to the Mooseheads and they ultimately chose him over Horth.
Beyond that, we didn't have a whole bunch to offer up that would be highly coveted. The type of deals that Bathurst made... getting big hauls for Higgins and Henneberry...they are both great 19 y/o players who are almost certain to come back to the league at 20. Our only 19 y/o players: Hughes, Vos, Michel.... not nearly as attractive.
Two concerns moving forward:
1. I'm unsure what our roster looks like for the balance of the season. With Arsenault being dealt we are carrying exactly 12 forwards, 6 defence, and 2 goalies. We need minimum 2 extra bodies to fill out our roster. Before the week there was talk of Will Allen and Max Jardine (FA d-man) joining our team. It seems pretty clear Rutledge is not interested in being a full time major junior player and we have AP guys in Jacques and Strang who could fill the role.
2. We really needed to accumulate some picks for the 2024 draft. As it stands we have our own 3rd and 5th round picks in the 2024 draft.... these are our only picks in the top 5 rounds and our only selections in the top 100. If we weren't able to deal players for pick now in the trade period, I'm not really sure what changes in the summer. I am left scratching my head how we acquire much needed picks to continue the development pipeline into our system. It's a major, major concern.
There was talk of deals that sounded like we might be involved in. RN was supposed to be close on a depth defenceman from us... Michel would make sense. RN also was supposed to be moving goaltender Kyle Hagen to a Maritime team...again, we make sense. However, neither deal came to fruition. There was just nothing we were involved in.

Heard Will Allen will be joining the Islanders for the rest of the year.

And with the trade period over, we can start to look at what the 24-25 roster might look like. 20 y/o players Horth, Morneau, and Huckins will age out. If we use our current 19 y/o's as the starting point for looking for 20s, that means we'll consider Hughes, Vos, Michel, and Bickle. Lets say we go with the three skaters, our depth looks as follows:
Forwards (ages for next season): Hughes (20) Powers (19) Walker (19) Butler (18) Campbell (18) Michaud (18) Maruna (18) Shields (18) Flanagan (17)
Defence Michel (20) Topilnyckyj(19) Vos (20) Duguay (18) Kearsey (18) Conrad (17)
Goal Ozols (19)
That leaves jobs for 4-5 forwards, a defenceman, and a goaltender.

I think your second point is pretty key… it certainly seems like the Islanders had one of the tougher trade periods. You have to wonder if Hulton didn’t get some calls early on in the year during Horth’s hot stretch… I’d be curious to know if there were offers he wish he had a 2nd chance at. Horth this year, Biakabutuka last year. Charlottetown seems like one of those teams that can do well with their 2nd-3rd round picks. To come out of your second rebuilding year in the bottom 1/3 and be so thin on picks in the upcoming draft is tough to take.
