Let’s say Hagen goes through waivers and gets to us.. do we take him and drop Bickle?
Bickle has been great for us lately and you don’t wanna do him dirty but Hagen could be a starter for the next 2.5 years if Ozols doesn’t pan out

I’m not sure how waivers works in season. Hagen is only 18….not sure RN has to put him on waivers. Perhaps they can just reassign him to Jr. A.

How come Horth wasn’t traded? He has 23 goals this year and is top 10 in goals for the league. Reynolds was traded and I read on here he’s better than him. I was under the impression he was one of the best 20’s in the league and that a big return should be expected? So what exactly gives..

And with the trade period over, we can start to look at what the 24-25 roster might look like. 20 y/o players Horth, Morneau, and Huckins will age out. If we use our current 19 y/o's as the starting point for looking for 20s, that means we'll consider Hughes, Vos, Michel, and Bickle. Lets say we go with the three skaters, our depth looks as follows: Forwards (ages for next season): Hughes (20) Powers (19) Walker (19) Butler (18) Campbell (18) Michaud (18) Maruna (18) Shields (18) Flanagan (17) Defence Michel (20) Topilnyckyj(19) Vos (20) Duguay (18) Kearsey (18) Conrad (17) Goal Ozols (19) That leaves jobs for 4-5 forwards, a defenceman, and a goaltender. We'll likely have an early Euro pick. Do you think we'll use the first round one and replace either Maruna, Ozols, or use both picks? I'm not really sure who is available in the import draft this off season. But it's something to consider for the offseason and could help give us a bit of a boost in the rebuild.

I honestly don't know what the approach will be in the Euro draft. We picked Maruna with our first selection. He was selected as a 17 y/o 6'3' 190 lb centre. That is the kind of player you build around.
We seriously needed goaltending but waited until the second round to take Ozols. Supposedly he was the goaltending target in the Euro draft. Going into the season we brought in Bickle to ensure we had a rostered goaltender who actually had played some CHL games in his career. If we walk Ozols we are back to the drawing board with new goaltenders.... unless we can make a trade for one....but we don't have any picks to do that.
Back to Maruna. He had a strong start. He had points in 5 of his first 6 games. Then he had points in 6 of his first 9 games. Following that he has completely fallen off and he does not have a point since Nov. 22. He'll routinely play on the 4th line and is sometimes used on the wing. I can't imagine how he's fallen off so significantly. He has the makeup to be a great player in this league but he has has lost his way. These are important months coming up for him.

I definitely think if Maruna's struggles continue that we move on and use the first pick. An unfortunate part of junior is we just don't have the luxury of time for a player to figure it out.
If he continues to struggle it'll only hold back the rebuild. It would be a shame though because he has everything going for him in terms of strength and size. Hopefully he figures it out quick, but I'm quickly starting to think we won't see him here too much longer.

There’s a lack of talent with some countries not being eligible to be drafted and so many teams in the CHL needing euros and seemingly more players going the USHL route than previous years. I just don’t think truly impact euros are coming over like they used too but we haven’t adjusted to that in our minds yet. We still think it’s 10 years ago. I can see the merit in keeping Ozols also but he’s also probably only a 1 year player.. he’s been a great 2nd round pick but he’s still sub .880 save %. That’s not exactly hard to replace.

All very true. Plus many of the Czechs and Slovaks are now less likely to choose the CHL. These countries are trying to grow their programs and top end talent I staying home. There also a new trend with high end guys going to play in Sweden. The long game is the new reality….so we keep that in mind with Maruna.
