Also possible they nibble on free agents from the OHL once there start to be some player cuts from there. Down to 25…looks like 14 forwards so that should be the Final Cut for forwards unless they grab somebody off the waiver wire. shorturl.at/jQ0HgI hope so, cause it’s gonna be tough sledding putting the puck in the net. If you subtract just the 3 OA that aged out, that’s 33% of scoring and 137 points now gone. Definitely gonna need a few players to break out.

Walker is a character guy with a great work ethic. But we’ve seen it a lot over the years. If the guy is 19 and is not first/second line player, third line C, top 4 D, or starting goalie….then his job may be in jeopardy and he might be replaced by a younger option with more time left playing junior hockey. I would have like to see Walker using his size this year and maybe showing as a late bloomer….but we will have to see that on another team.

Noteworthy that Will Allen and Jack Flanagan were both cut from Saint John today as well.

Happy to see that Emile-Alexandro Lemieux-Goupil is still here....so far.
He had a very good camp. Plays older then a 16yr old dman.
Playing in Ontario the past couple seasons, Jim picked him "early" for a reason.
Have to love Jim's Ontario connections.

Limited time seeing him but the first game I was at in the scrimmage, I had to look him up to verify his age. I thought he had good control and looked strong with Kearsey next to him. There is bound to be some bumps along the way but I think he looked great!

How has the team looked so far? Been busy wrapping up things at work and getting ready for my classes that I never really had time to follow training camp.

Did they forget to announce roster moves?
There were obviously more cuts made......why are they not released?
What about Emile-Alexandro Lemieux-Goupil? Mathis Valente? Logan Biser?
These 3, IMO, had very good camps....

Didn't that already go by?

There was an article in the Guardian yesterday saying they still have cuts to make…
Usually the team gets announced the weekend of the ball hockey jamboree which may be the 14th this year?

The goaltending situation was never in question....it was always going to be Hickey and Ruccia. I'm curious with what they decide to do with Emile-Alexandro Lemieux-Goupil. I hope they keep him.

Friday will be my first game outside of scrimmages so I am looking fwd to seeing them all. I hope it’s Ruccia in net 😊

Didn't that already go by? I believe the deadline is the day before the season begins. The deadlines that recently passed were the CEGEP deadline (have to make a decision on any kid who needs to register for CEGEP), the waiver deadline (have to offer a contract to any 18/19/20) and the 25 man roster deadline (max 25). Of the players above, Biser would not be subject to any deadlines and the other two would depend on where they go to school (not all Quebec kids are CEGEP, but the majority are).

Unless they are looking at some OHL castoffs, they would probably stay with the 14 forwards they have now?

I was reading that Guardian article today. There's no names mentioned, but I think we are all circling around how things will shake down as the roster is finalized from the current 25 bodies we are carrying to what we will start the season with.
Jim mentions 22-23 in the article, but the smart money would be on the team carrying 22..... they don't like having an abundance of extra bodies around.
There are 4 20 y/o's (Goriunov, Ruccia, Hughes, Steen) and obviously they have to make the decision on Hughes or Steen. The fallout from that will largely impact the balance of the roster.
Of the 25 guys remaining we have 14 forwards, 9 defencemen, and 2 goalies... the goalies are settled with Ruccia and Hickey.
FW
Biser Butler Caines Campbell Flanagan Goriunov Hughes Michaud Powers Shields Stumpf Valente Walsh Yuzik
Ultimately, I expect Walsh gets sent back to U18 and is just around for experience. He is 16 and a 6th round pick. He's a player that would benefit from playing in a big role at U18 or even trying his hand at Jr. A at 16
D
Conrad Duguay Jardine Kearsey Lemieux-Goupil Plamondon Steen Topilnyckyj Voyaga
I'm thinking that ideally, they'd like to get down to 7 D and 13 forwards. The combination to do this would be to keep Hughes and walk Steen, then return Walsh to U18 and determine where Lemieux-Goupil should play as a 16 y/o.... U18 in Quebec.... back to Ontario... it's a bit of an unknown.
But there are a few options they have.....
Let's say they really like Steen better than Hughes. I still think they'd use Walsh in U18 and be on the lookout for a castoff FA out of Ontario as the OHL rosters get finalized. And on D, they'd need to cut 2 defencemen to get down to 7. I just think carrying 8 is too many. That 8th guy plays very sparingly even if they go to an 11/7 breakdown each night.
So, if they decide that Hughes will be the 3rd 20 over Steen. Then Walsh to U18 gives us 13 FW. I still think they eventually put Lemiex-Goupil in a league where the plays more and that gives them 7 D.
I'm sure a big part of the past 3 weeks has been an evaluation of exactly what they have in Voyaga. He's a 2nd round Euro pick, out of Russia..... so he comes here as a complete unknown. Not only that, but he was really taken as just a flier, with the best case scenario being that our Euros for the year would be Goriunov and Radivojevic. So, I think a big part of the practice and game assessments since the beginning of camp would be determine whether or not Voyaga is a guy we invest in as a Q player. And should it turn out that Voyaga is not what they are looking for, then they likely cut him and have Lemieux-Goupil playing on the roster at 16.
And there's certainly a chance Lemieux-Goupil plays his way onto the final roster. By all accounts he has looked great at camp and seems to be really physically developed for a 16 y/o player. If he's ready to play, then they will want to have him on the team and maybe building a profile for being on NHL team's radars in advance of the 2026 NHL draft.
Interesting decisions remain.
