It's not like Goriunov's stats are exceptionally stronger than Hughes over the balance of the past 3 seasons. I'm detracting some points from Hughes because he hasn't had a 40 point season....but looking at Goriunov 17 y/o 65-12-11-23 18 y/o 65-23-19-42 19 y/o 63-29-19-48 He's been in the 40s twice but has yet to crack 50. He's been more productive, but not by much. Notice that Goriunov has been very durable... he's only missed a handful of games over his three years. There may not be a whole lot of difference between Goriunov and Hughes production wise. I agree, the thing is if they don’t want hughes somebody will, with a good first half he might be a guy a contender wants… a big up and down winger who’s net front power play skill is very good for a big physical checker. He has been solid his whole career and if he stays healthy he’s ready to explode this year offensively. It’s tough to find these guys nowadays. |

With that said he takes a lot of undisciplined penalties. No team wants that headache. Unless he changes his game up some. |

Agree hughes was undisciplined first 1/2 season here but was very disciplined last year

Not every rumour is true... This one was I'm just saying...we sat in a very loud, vocal section...and I heard every version of this story under the sun from talking people around our seats. From that he put his hands on Jim. To that he punched another player. To that he came in a cleared out his locker and walked out on the team and I quote "Was done!". To that it was a death in the family. Don't even get me started on the Campbell stories....if the 37 versions we heard were true, he'd be in prison. There is the truth. Then there is the version circulating around a very small arena with true and true Islanders that love "the news". And even if a portion of it is true...people are allowed to make mistakes. And grow and learn. Clearly Jim saw past it and Hughes came back and had a strong second half. Some people choose to focus on that  |

IMO, the 3 overagers WILL be:
Ruccia
Goriunov
*OA via trade/OHL waiver pick-up.
Hughes will be moved or sent down.
Madden will be released.
It's just a waiting game.
