I just got back and the rookies look very solid. A lot more size. There are many first round choices at higher drafts that stand out.
Dimitruk - very Q like and very good. Will easily make team. Zack Sills - As reported Devon MacAusland - reported and solid Matt Brown - very very solid. Remy Lamoureaux - I'd be surprised if we don't have a place for this guy. Very big and agile. Martin Baca - The size of Marquardt and mean. Great pick.
Nick Croft- Hmmm. Looked pretty good to me. Bobby Little - Big guy!
Others too numerous to mention. Only one or two max looked out of place. Wildcats obviously have the best scouts in the CHL.

How about that goal by McAusland? That was a beauty.
Very impressed with the size of the rookies so far. I wasn't really impressed with Lamoureaux at first. He seemed to be falling all over the place and scared to get hit. Towards the end of the game he seemed to show his speed. Would like to see what he has if he can drop the mitts. I think he needs to throw his body around more.

I think he needs to throw his body around more. Lamoureaux was easily the most physically imposing player on the ice ... skated well and created offence ... he actually scored a goal but they credited it to Brown. Baca was very good ... great size and he wasn't shy to get physically involved ... moved the puck well. MacAusland was exciting to watch but seemed to disappear in the second half of the game. Brown was disappointing to me ... didn't really do anything impressive at all ... looked out of shape. Sill and Watson were strong and made things happen ... good speed on both of them and they used thir size well. Sill is alot like Gaudet ... even skates the same way ... nice breakaway goal. Gomes on defense was smooth ... looked alot like JS Adam on the ice ... handled the puck very well and made some solid stretch passes. He is 19 and so he will have to be considerably better than 17 and 18 yr old players to grab a spot ... but he has a decent shot. He is better than Tolles who is the same age. Demitruk was ok ... sort of reminded me of Joe Tolles of last year ... very raw talent that needs good coaching to improve. Bobby Little ... tall slim kid ... didn't do anything impressive but also didn't look bad. I think alot of the Dmen were just trying to keep it simple and not get beat ... and we may see them step it up in the next few scrimmages. Cooling and Babiak were the best goaltenders ... the two that played the second half ... Cooling is a big kid that just stands his ground and covers alot of net ... none of the goaltenders looked bad. Easy cuts to be made ... Herr and Smith ... at 19 they aren't better than the younger players. The play was scrambly for the most part as is expected for players that have never played together before ... it should smooth out over the next few days.

Can someone maybe tell me who the player is that has the white helmet with the shiny tinted visor? I was there yesterday & he was just messing around on the ice. Would like to know who he is, thanks.

Did any of the longshots stand out? The only player that stood out for me that I wasn't watching for was Gomes ... all the "names" were as advertised ... although I was disappointed with Brown ... but its only the first scrimmage. I went there to see Lamoureaux, MacAusland, Demitruk, Watson, Brown, Baca, Sill, Tolles. Sill and Gomes are 19 and stood out against younger opponents ... while Tolles (also 19) did not really stand out (which will be a problem for him). I really liked what I saw from Watson ... very quick for a taller player.

You mention Watson as being strong, maybe a good shot based on what you have seen so far? I remember him as being quit agile, I am very interested in seeing what he's got

That was Demitruk ... that hotdog visor will have to go. I don't see how it's a "hotdog" visor 5 years and they will likely be the standard @ the rate equipment changes are evolving in hockey

For me it wasn't so much that he didn't stand out so much as he did some truly bonehead things out there. I usually look at my sheet of names whenever I see someone that did something interesting or truly bonehead and he was one of the two I looked at who did a bonehead thing. He looked sloppy which surprised me considering he has played a lot of hockey lately. But it is only the first scrimmage.

I didn't see anything I'd call bonehead from him ... he took a penalty for hooking to prevent a guy getting to the net with the puck but I'd rather he hook him than let him get there. His problem as I saw it was that he didn't look any better at 19 than the 17 and 18 yr old Dmen and that will cost him his spot to a younger player. He needs to stand out in these rookie games if he wants a spot.

Well I am going to be heading to the rink later on & I am looking forward to seeing the players.
I'm very interested to see Dimitruk ( although I guess I already have seen him .. although not in game action .. ) Sill, MacAusland, Baca.
Anyone tell me when the veterans enter the mix for scrimmages?

They don't until the rookie camp is done and the first round of cuts are finished.

He had to hook the guy because he was trying to pass to the opposite defensemen bouncing behind the net and was so off with the pass that he shot it at his own goaltender. He then had to coverup by rushing to the front of the net and hooking the opposing player. He caused the whole thing. But hey its just the first scrimmage.
