Today's Game Tolles- Definitely on the bubble to make team, I find he tries to do too much and thinks he's Yandle for 2 yrs ago... Dimitruk- Solid D, hopefully he'll stick around... Mangan- Invisible in my opinion Bezak - Was this his 1st game? thought he got better as game went on... Brown - Can't see him making club eventhough he's our 1st rd pick this yr... Marquardt - Hat Trick, enough said, looks like he's slimmer, hopefully he stays around for the whole yr... Baca- Big Guy, looks like he'll be a good D for us in next couple of yrs.... Lessard - I think he'll be our most improved guy from last yr, I think he'll be a good all around player... Brenton- GReat game, hopefully he can finish a lil more this year and is more consistent... Cameron - Best player on ice, seems like getting drafted motivated him & looks like he put weight on & got stronger.. Lamoureux - Like this guy, hope he makes team, solid bang & crash guy that won't be afraid to drop the gloves... I definitely agree with you on Tolles. He was dominant in rookie camp but he's having trouble with the veterans. The fact that he's an offensive D hurts him cause we already have Barberio, Pianosi, Baca and possibly Dimitruk. I think I'd have to take Boyle, possibly Gomes and even Miceli who's impressed me a lot over Tolles. As for Bezak, I like that he's not scared to play along the boards. He isn't lazy whatsoever and was trying hard in all three zones on every shift. You could tell he was very tired probably because of the travel and jetlag so I'm not putting too much into the fact that he seemed to be just a half stride behind the play. He just got over from Slovakia and they put him in a scrimmage on a line with the best player in camp so it was probably a lot to chew on for him. I think he'll do fine. I'm looking forward to see him in the exhibition games. However, I remember that Martikainen had an ok camp last year and we all no how that turned out so I won't get too excited yet...

Today's game was my first chance to watch the Cats this season. I spent most of my time identifying the players, so I probably missed a lot of the subtleties of the game.
Of the non-returning players, I liked what I saw of Baca and Gomes. Not much to say about Baca...he's big, skates well, and his game should turn up another notch once he gets settled in.
I think Gomes is on the team if he is a year or two younger. As a 19 year old, his chances aren't as good, but I don't think the Cats will be able to acquire anyone better than him in a trade (unless someone has a 20 yo they can't keep), so maybe he will stick. I wouldn't be disappointed to see him as the 5th/6th defenseman.
A quick question though, did anyone see MacAusland out there? He was listed as #24 Red, but I didn't see him. I've never seen him play, so I wouldn't recognize him if he was wearing a different number...

I like what he brings, but he is a 19 yo. I would ultimately like to see them trade for a good 20yo dman. I heard there are quite a few players out with injuries, mainly groin injuries. That tells me they're not in the best shape .. or maybe Riopel never got over his injury from last year. Although I don't think Riopel & Sniderman's injuries are serious, as I seen them on the ice before the intersquad game, along with Tayler, Morehouse & another player I didn't know who it was.

To start off I am a big fan of the Cats and have been reading this site for a few years now. and some of the stuff is just out in left field.
For instance everyone here is trashing Herr - you know what ya the whole rink knows he isn't loaded with talent but the whole rink knows that he is game to fight anyone anytime and puts the fear of god into those little french guys who are all talk. Also I am pretty sure that when he came and beat Cormier last year in Rim everyone thought he was the second coming of christ. I would rather have him as my 6th D than some talented pansy for the limited icetime aloted to the sixth D.
Cody Wilson should make this team he might have the best hockey sense of any Defenseman out there, he reads the play well and makes good first passes that the forwards love getting
Edward Stevens biggest suprise in camp heard from a reliable source he was second to macausland in rookie scoring at the rookie camp. Everyone keeps saying that he is trying to keep up with eagles and marquart when in reality he is 17 and controls the offensive zone with great passes adn vision reminds me of a stuart macrae that used to play for CB adn he turned out all right. Also best faceoff player in camp hope they sign him.
Brown is starting to pick it up he will be fine he isn't flashy but does the job reminds me of a ryan smythe isn't going to pull you out of your seat like macausland or brenton but will be consitent and by his 19 year old year a very very effective player.
Lameroux i think he is a fraud he was physically dominating IN rookie camp then the veterans show up and the kid dissapears, for having such a tough reputation he must of beat up alot of kids in midget wearing cages and a no fight rule. Also a border line hit on Dimitruk near the end of the game. I want to see how taugh this kid is when he gets called out.

Yes, Herr is only going on his fighting abilities, but he's a 19 yo. He goes after a 17 yo non fighter & he doesn't even win the fight. From what I seen from him, he isn't that great of a fighter. I think he's jinxed .. " Her-r " just isn't the greatest name, especially if you're a fighter ..

Don Cherry or Sean Avery, one of those two screws. No need for more racism here but hey it was that wimps first post so we won't think too much of it for now. I wouldn't mind keeping Herr if he was actually good at fighting. Jaromir Jagr is a better fighter then this guy. Can't wait for him to be cut, he's a waste of ice time even in practice. I don't know who Lameroux is, I haven't seen him out there and I've only miss a few scrimmages. I'm willing to bet, Lamoureux now at 17 is a better fighter then Herr right now if that's any consolation to you. Also, fighting isn't a rule so don't know wtf you're talking about. I don't know who Ryan Smythe is but is he related to Conn? And with the lack of intelligence in your post I assume you were more then impressed with Stephen Tayler's shootout performance and you think he's better then Sniderman in the shootout?

Penguins23 what are you going on about steven tyler for u make no sence, and actually Herr fought cormier in RIM his very first game in the league and did well and then Cormier came to moncton and worked him, also when he fought ferlotte you could clearly see ferlotte challenge him and all that kid did was try and hang on ... Herr will be on the team if he gets cut i will not post on this site again

Herr will fight anybody but will beat very few ... and after awhile losing fight after fight is not very motivating to the team. We will hold you to that last promise.

The last two days I have had a chance to see Meceli play ... he really likes to jump up in the play and handles the puck better than any dman we have ... very good skater with a solid build. He suddenly jumps to the head of the pack of non-returning Dmen that aren't named Dimitruk. This kid is also only 18 and so he is clearly a better option than Gomes.
