I partly disagree with that. Now is not the time to try anything. That's what you do when you're panicking and have no idea what to do anymore. That's when you're at a point of puting Morehouse on the 1st unit powerplay. I believe there are a couple of things to change. I agree with those who say Magnan should be paired up with Mardquart. I also agree that Pianosi should be taken off the powerplay. I think that Herr should be given some ice again. He's not the most talented out there, but he's able to get the puck out of the zone without necessarily getting an icing call. Who to take out though? Easy call for me, Gomes. To me, the two scratches on defense should be Boyle and Gomes. Sit Brenton. I know what some people say (he's quick and good on the pk, etc.), but when you look at the big picture, he goes quickly nowhere and well, our pk sucks. MacLellan is injured, so that's an easy decision. Bring Labelle back in. He had a solid game against Baie-Comeau and we need some offense. Doing those kind of things are simply doing anything, they're attempts and doing something constructive for the team. What would the chances that you unload some of your good players and your #1 goalie at christmas and build for the next years? Why would Riopel get traded? He'll be 19 and our #1 next year....if we were building for next year (which we are), why would we want a rookie goalie? I could see some players moved at Christmas, but more to move guys who won't be back anyway....and even then, only for fair value (we didn't give away Welton and MacDonald last year).

If we're building for next year it's not very obvious....too many older guys on the team and not really much impact players coming back to give us a solid core next year(MacAusland,Brown,Barberio)will still be too young to carry a team. IMO the year after next would be a better one to go for considering we'll have Bezak,Baca,Barberio as 19's and MacAusland and Brown will be 18....a much more solid core to build on.Consider Riopel and Pianosi should both be back as 20's and something starts to shape up.In the meantime the team needs to have good draft year and rely less on FA's who are only here for one year....cough**Myles Gomes** cough cough.

And you're forgetting some other pretty decent returning players...Cameron, Lessard, Brannon, Labelle (I think he'll come around), Eagles...it's definitely not all doom and gloom next season.

I agree on the part that Riopel should and will stay...I disagree that this team will make much noise next year therefore I wouldn't be opposed to moving a few assets to set us up with a few 17 yo's....the problem is do we have assets to move that will yield us good return and set-us up for the next 2 years? Yes we'll have a decent returning core next year but the reason I didn't mention the Lessard's and Brannon is because they're not players you build a championship team around....they're quality depth guys that will help you go far but you have to build around the stars.....and when you have 2-3 of them to build around you go for it.As of right now I don't see those pieces to build around for us to be a contender next year as opposed to 09-10 when we have 3 guys who should be great players by then.

Like most people on here I can't understand why Labelle was not in the line-up yesterday. He was one of the few bright spots in the Baie-Comeau game and has the potential to provide some offence that we desperately need. What do we do? Sit him out. Like Critic said maybe there's something we're not aware of. I can't believe we already have people saying that MacAuslund is too small to play in the league What is he like 1 inch shorter than Kelsey Tessier? How is he doing this season? Too small to play in the league? I don't think so. There's already precedent for small skilled guys being successful in the Q. Alex Blais and Bruno Lemire being two extreme cases as those guys were shorter than MacAuslund. He's looked pretty good in his first two games for a 16 year old who missed all of training camp and the first 4 weeks of the season. Small or not he's going to be a good one. If anyone is looking for inspiration look no further than the Chicoutimi Sagueneens. They started out of the season winning 1 of 6 games, scoring a measly 1.33 goals per game. Since then the Sags have won 5 of 6 and scored 4 goals per game. One of the big keys to their turnaround? 20 YO Francis Pare notching 6 goals and 4 assists in those 6 games after registering all but an assist in the first 6 games. Hmm 20 year old picking up his game when it was desperately needed. I think the Cats have one of those who needs to do the same. Not saying that we're Chicoutimi but the teams are fairly similar. They may have even less offensive punch up front but get more production from the blueline and both teams have gotten solid goaltending in most games. They also have a dreadful PP that sits 17th overall in the league just ahead of the Cats. We're only 13 games in and there is a lot of time to turns things around. I said right from the start of the season that just about anything could happen in this division and it would probably be a roller coaster ride of a season. Just as easily as we've lost five games in a row it wouldn't surprise me to see the Cats turn around and string together a few wins just like that. We could also be in for a long season but who really knows at this point.

I would say that we could see a FA or two real soon. Some 1'st and 2'nd line 19's are not getting any job done and another defensemen wouldn't hurt. Some player is being left out somewhere in Canada or US and we will no doubt be looking at him soon. Mr Irving doesn't like a loser especially when its looking like it will be a loser again next year. That tells me to Trade Marquart now later it doesn't matter and then replace some 19's and 20's with FA's whenever.
On a more positive note, I liked Baca last game, he played very very well. Only criticism is that is he's going to hit someone then do it. I think he's scared to hit like he can and he will be fun to watch when he does. Bezac played well also. Hey where was Labelle he's probably the number one offensive player we have right now?
This coaching staff I can't figure out. Not just for the mess on the ice but for player selections through training camp and for game time. Is there is some difficulty going on that we've been kept out of? Torchetti-Martino has done more with less than Flynn-Joseph why?

Yeah you're right....i'm not sure why I thought they were 17.Oh well hopefully in 2 years when can pick-up a couple euro's that are actually dominent to help our run.

I can see the cats unloading some players, (sellers have the upper hand in the Q). this is not are "go for it" year next year probably won't be either. If theirs any interest in some of are 20,19 or 18's and the price is right why not. as for Riopel unless the Cats get the moon and a few future stars I doubt it very much. if they were to trade him it would be next year when his value will peak, and some young hotshot goalie would have to be in the trade.

Everybody is for sale ... it just depends on who is willing to pay the price. Riopel at 18 would draw a very large return in a trade ... however I doubt anybody would be willing to pay it as he isn't so much better than others that might be available.

Torch and Marino have had a great first half last season but won what 6 games after Christmas ... gonna go out on a limb here and say i would rather have Andrew MacDonald (AHL top Islander Prospect) Gaudet (Captain, AHL/ECHL, Defensive face off winning center) Nathan Welton (4 year Q defenceman). Then Marquart (lazy 7th round pick who wasn't even signed) Magnon (Love him, but a free agent undrafted or signed, but will be a great college player) and Morehouse (who is a poor mans heptich). Throw in Emmanuele (19 year old Q defenseman), Oskun (second year in the Q) Bartulus (3 year guy, had him when they were winning) not bad defense to fall into as a coach Barbario is the only D that will play pro from this lineup and he wouldn't of beaten any of the D out the memorial cup year. Hard to have success when the defence can't break out or hit the net (Pinasi over the net on five on three two games in a row). Lets face it guys this years team isn't very talented a bunch of C+ players and its not like we can sell because we have nothing to sell. You usually sell guys who at 19 won't come back as 20's and we don't have that this year. IMO guys who need to pick it up Pisansi - F Lessard - D- Gomes - D- (but improving) bezak - D+ Morehouse - D Cameron - C-
Just my opinion i know i will get trashed for my thoughts but I am a huge wildcats fan and i just think it we are a year or two away from getting back to the elite level were used to, You could have Scotty Bowman in here right now and have the best systems in the world but if there is no talent or hard work your not going to beat anyone

That seems high to me as I used to talk to him when he was sitting which was quite a bit. Oskun played 58 of 70 games, Samson 38 and Bourdon 13. You would be right about having older better defense last year but this year the defense is not as big a problem as the offense. Most games we lose are like the Cape Breton game 1-0. That certainly isn't a defense problem. The game the othe night 4-1 and BC 3-2. Riopel and the defense have given the team a chance to win every night they played so far.
