Torch and Marino have had a great first half last season but won what 6 games after Christmas ... gonna go out on a limb here and say i would rather have Andrew MacDonald (AHL top Islander Prospect) Gaudet (Captain, AHL/ECHL, Defensive face off winning center) Nathan Welton (4 year Q defenceman). Then Marquart (lazy 7th round pick who wasn't even signed) Magnon (Love him, but a free agent undrafted or signed, but will be a great college player) and Morehouse (who is a poor mans heptich). Throw in Emmanuele (19 year old Q defenseman), Oskun (second year in the Q) Bartulus (3 year guy, had him when they were winning) not bad defense to fall into as a coach Barbario is the only D that will play pro from this lineup and he wouldn't of beaten any of the D out the memorial cup year. Hard to have success when the defence can't break out or hit the net (Pinasi over the net on five on three two games in a row). Lets face it guys this years team isn't very talented a bunch of C+ players and its not like we can sell because we have nothing to sell. You usually sell guys who at 19 won't come back as 20's and we don't have that this year. IMO guys who need to pick it up Pisansi - F Lessard - D- Gomes - D- (but improving) bezak - D+ Morehouse - D Cameron - C- Just my opinion i know i will get trashed for my thoughts but I am a huge wildcats fan and i just think it we are a year or two away from getting back to the elite level were used to, You could have Scotty Bowman in here right now and have the best systems in the world but if there is no talent or hard work your not going to beat anyone BEF JAN 1ST 41 26 15 0 AFT JAN 1ST 29 13 12 4 Emmanuel, Torchetti never played much for some strange reason but the site says he played 58 games. That seems high to me as I used to talk to him when he was sitting which was quite a bit. Oskun played 58 of 70 games, Samson 38 and Bourdon 13. You would be right about having older better defense last year but this year the defense is not as big a problem as the offense. Most games we lose are like the Cape Breton game 1-0. That certainly isn't a defense problem. The game the othe night 4-1 and BC 3-2. Riopel and the defense have given the team a chance to win every night they played so far. Two of those Dmen from last year were in the Top 3 in team scoring ... not far behind Marquardt. Offense often starts from having strength on your back end ... and it did last year. This year we get very little contribution from the back end ... and teams know to put pressure on our Dmen in the offensive zone and we cough it up or play scrambly.

Thats all i ment by that post is that our defense isn't as strong i understand ouskon and emmaneul were big offensive contributors last year but they were older and more mature and could break the puck out with to jumpstart the offense and quarter back power plays
Eastman, Gomes, Baca, Boyle, Herr (not enough games last year) Wilson all rookies this year Barbiaro is going to be the best prospect but the cats are asking to much out of him which is no ones fault only because they don't have the strength at defense to not rely on im heavily ... he sould be being groomed as a 5th d on any team but because the cats are so week they are expecting him to be a one or two d in on the team Pisonasi might be the most over rated D in the league he is a poor mans welton bad decisions

If someone trips you while you are on your end of period walk, it will either have been me or your mother. Just don't trip my girl friend. Instead of planning on tripping people 5 days ahead of time perhaps you should start learning how to use the new thing in the world called the internet If you have any more questions like how to shut down your computer or something just send me a PM. P.S Don't forget to leave cheese beside the mouse when you leave it on for an extended period of time while unattended.

Oskun played 58 of 70 games, Samson 38 and Bourdon 13. Nic Emanuel did play that many games. He was a regular until we made the trades to acquire Goyens etc. He sat out a few games until Torch finally realized he was better than the new guys. He then played the rest of the season. You might be thinking of the previous year where he did sit out a lot. He'll be a regular this year with Welton on the Acadia blueline.

I think what these two did better than our D so far this year is that they made a better first pass coming out of our own end. Breakouts don't work so well when they always start with ringing the puck off the boards. Better things happen when the D men make clean, quick passes and use other options such as passing to the center coming off the boards or wingers coming across the neutral zone. It also doesn't help that the winger who tries to stop the puck along the boards has no puck support, especially from the center. They are left to get squashed on the boards, clearly not a clean breakout. If you watched the BC game, there was a huge difference in the quickness in which BC got out of their own end. They made better decisions, made them quicker and had great puck support getting out of their own end. I think things will get better it just may take a while and a lot of repetition before the guys adjust to the speed and quickness needed to play at this level. That's my two thoughts anyways.

I just wouldn't call Ouskun and Emanuele "big offensive contributors". I do agree they are/were solid players, though.
Welton and MacDonald however....they made the team tick last year...and they are sorely missed.

We have to remember that 6 of our 8 Dmen are still adapting to this level and the other 2 are only sophomores in the league. That inexperience will show less and less as the season progresses.

Agreed on the breakouts a big problem.
Gomes is the best d-man for the breakout pass and he isn't even good enough to be in junior A.

Ouskin and Emmanuelle were playing behind Welton and MacDonald last year. They didn't have to face the opponent's top line all the time. I don't think they would change our D a lot. maybe a little, but not a lot.

Hard to believe the Dogs are at the top of the list for Goals Against. Albiet they played 10 games, still nice to see. Crazy that the mighty PEI Rocket allowed double what the dogs allowed.
