I think it was Wild Willie doing the Bird Dance, but you are right. It got the little ones excited during the intermissions. Yeah that was it... Of all the annoying things they put in, they took out the good stuff... well not for me, but it was nice to see all the kids into it.

I'm really starting to think there's someone reading this board.. we complained about the intros & it was changed.. we complained about the Tomar goal horn being gone & it came back.. now tonight I noticed the cell phone ring was different or at the least a lower tone.. well what else do we want.. seems someone's listening.. Everyone should get free hot dogs next game... or at least those in section 18. ;D I'm thinking free beer for section 23.

Those are pretty good, although it was a little low playing it right after the Cape Breton guy got hammered into the boards by Bezak and was struggling to get off of the ice.

I think they should change their "SHOUT" video from that old movie to the "Shout" video from Wedding Crashers That's my suggestion for the day.

Irving has to realize they have two types of clients at hockey games. 2/3 of the people at Cats games are die hard hockey fans and the remaining 1/3 are there for the social aspect of a hockey game. I base my number on season tickets sold vs. attendance.
If you have 2000 something season ticket holders and are getting 1000-1500 walk up fans per game in a city of 150,000 something is wrong. They can attribute the decrease of attendance to the team performance but your walk up crowd really doesn't give a shit about the teams record. They are there for a night out. Attendance is down because people are having a shit time at games.
The biggest problem at the coliseum is the sound. Its hard to have in game promos when nobody can understand what is being said on the PA. The coliseum can spend millions on sound equipment and it won't matter because the building is built poorly for sound. They need to work with what they have. If they put speakers in the back of the rink up in the bleachers the sound will be a lot clearer all around but the bowl would probably hear a very slight echo.
The player introductions and player interviews are a decent idea if we could hear but Les and the players are very monotone. They need to edit the audio to add more treble because bass and the coliseum structure do not mix. Why don't they have the players record this in a recording studio and have a sound engineer edit them? They don't even need to do this at a studio they can use ProTools.
As far as the ice level host/promo person they should get a girl for two reasons. The most important reason is for sound. A female voice is more high pitched and would suit the coliseum's acoustics better. The second reason is because the Cats main clients are men and children. Studies show that young children are more welcoming to females and men love to look at boobs.
As far as the intermission contests I think they have toned it down on purpose because if the contests are too entertaining no-one will leave to buy concessions. But the strategy is borderline crazy because there are so few people that stay in their seats at intermission they'll soon have trouble charging companies to advertise their product at intermission because there's no reach.
The music sucks ass at the coliseum. I blame Irving for not wanting to be too risky and play the same generic cookie cutting shit night after night. I watch a lot of hockey on NHL Center Ice and there are some NHL teams with great DJ's. The Dallas Stars play a lot of hard rock to get fans pumped up, not 100 versions of Put Your Hands Up In The Air. Good music will put the crowd in the game. The music should also follow the game. Like in Montreal when the Habs get a PP they always play the Star Wars theme.
Another thing I notice about the music is why is everything english? Acadiens love to party. I bet if they snuck some 1755 or Bois Jolis in there people would get moving and cheering. We are a billingual province! Playing some French music instead of Nickelback 14 times a game would be smart and refreshing.
Some ways to get people more into the games would be to have some contests that follow the game like hockey bingo or mini pools. In Montreal they turned the crap sections at the high ends of the rink into the "Zone Molson" Each section has a player and if the player scores everyone gets a beer. When the section's player has the puck everyone cheers like crazy. The tickets are also cheaper. If the cats took the ends bowl sections and priced the tickets a couple bucks cheaper and gave away a fry if the player scored they could fill these sections and really get some crowd reaction.
Another way to get the crowd involved would be to plant fans around the arena. The cats could get some actors from local high schools and plant groups of them in every section. If people see other people cheering they will not be embarrassed to cheer. They could also have promotions where after every goal they give someone who is cheering a prize. I know its embarrassing to have to pay people off to cheer but they have to train the fans somehow.

I don't really agree with that sentence. A losing team might not stop the walk up crowd to show up once, but if they put a valiantly poor effort during the game (as an example, the Baie-Comeau game), they will be a lot less interested in coming back. However I agree with the fact that under 3000 season ticket holders and an average crowd under 4000 is pretty poor for this city and the size it has (and the reach in a very limited radius). Although I agree that the sound sucks and that the accoustics are horrible (lets not forget this is a 70's rink, made primarily for hockey when mostly organ music was played), I don't have much difficulty hearing the announcers and promo people. What I do have trouble hearing is Les' interviews. It's just not loud enough I find. I agree. You can tell the players aren't into it at all, but that's not surprising either. It would probably be better if it was made somewhere out of the rink where the players can act like themselves instead of hockey players. Or if the Coliseum has some sort of comfortably lounge with sofas and such, in there. The music is pretty horrible, I think everyone knows that *clap your hands, clap your hands*. I don't know why they don't change it. Or even not changing it isn't that bad, just stop playing the same songs more then twice in the game. I think the playlist is simply too small. Get some more music! Not necessarily new, not necessarily rock or anything. Just more. As for the french music, I remember that they used to play some Bois-Joli and 1755 once upon a time and I was wondering recently why they stopped. Love the ideas. On a related note though, I find they should charge a little less for the upperbowl seats, even though you have a great view. Lower ticket prices encourage more people to come! And usually if they come once and enjoy the show, many will want to go into the lowerbowl eventually. But then you have to control the crowd in the lowerbowl. Count me in! Last year during the Wildcats' opening game against Bathurst, my buddies and I screamed and cheered and taunted Gougeon almost the whole game. The people around us actually loved it and in the 3rd period, we had all the kids around us screaming GOOOOUUUUGGGGEEEEOOONNNN with us. It was great fun. And a couple of people said the team should get us all season tickets so we can do it every game. Now, I do that willingly without having to be rewarded, but I'll take the free season tickets anyways.

Attendance is down because people are having a shit time at games. I think your numbers are a little skewed ... many of those season tickets are company owned and they give them out to different employees and clients ... or sometimes the seats sit vacant. Quite often the people sitting in these seats are not diehard fans either. I don't know what percentage of the season tickets would fall under this category but I think it is a significant number none the less ... but less than 50%.
