Is this even a rumour that it might be happening I'm not even sure how this came up lol I'm not suggesting we get him with all parties knowing he's gonna play here and we only gotta give up Charland and a 2nd! If we go in this blind and offer much more then I don't do it shit Val D'or may know full well he will not come to Saint John and take the player and pick and laugh in our face. Yeah but business does not work that way in the Q. Find me 2 or 3 examples of big name acquisitions who did not show up? Nearly every example i've seen of holdouts getting traded is because they have a deal with the new team already. The only one I can think of was Brad Malone. I think the Mooseheads gave up a 5th for him but if he reported they would have sent them a first. No other big name acquisitions jump out at me though.....

On that Louis Leblanc for Charland and a 2nd round pick trade....stupid. Never would happen. Val D'Or if nothing else has rights to a compensatory pick if Leblanc does not report (which from what I understand is taken between rounds 1 and 2 of the draft as he was originally taken with the last pick of the 1st round). Thus that pick they already would be entitled to is better than any 2nd round pick we would have.
Basically that would make the trade:
19th overall pick (and rights to Louis Leblanc) for 30th overall pick (approx.) and Keven Charland. One could argue they'd almost be better off just cutting Leblanc loose and using the compensatory pick is what I am getting at, so no way that deal gets done at that price.

Oh I understand how things work they were playing out a scenario and my understanding is that Lala was suggesting it would cost more then Charland and a 2nd without even knowing whether he would report or not. It would...because VDO wont trade him for that.....period...whether he has a deal with you or he doesnt...

It would...because VDO wont trade him for that.....period...whether he has a deal with you or he doesnt... What am I missing ... if VDO doesn't trade him, they have the following options: 1) Leave him on their protected list to rot, and hope he changes his mind sometime before his junior career ends. 2) Accept the compensatory pick, which would be the last pick of the second round in this case, in exchange for LeBlanc's rights as he would go back into the draft. I believe they could exercise this option at either of the 2008 or 2009 drafts. Theoretically, wouldn't any offer that nets them better than the last pick of the second round be worth their while (especially if they can trade him out of the division where they would seldom see him and he would have minimal bearing on the future of their franchise), assuming he is never going to report?

Quebec wouldn't mind offering a 1rst for him I am pretty sure. But I think they want more than that.
