I'm not defending whatever happened, as I wasn't even there to see what you're talking about... but when I hear that teenage hockey players reacted poorly to hecklers and as such have no class, it's so hypocritical it's sickening. Is it the players that have no class or is it the hecklers (who are often much older than the kids playing)? What kind of double standard is that? And oh yes, the kids in the stands who have to witness this atrocity... maybe you should think twice about that. Should the kids in the stands have to witness adults trash-talking teenagers on their way off the ice after a hockey game? I don't care what happened the guy hit a kid with his stick suck it up buttercup! If he wants play professional hockey at some point he better get used to it cause this is Jr hockey try the NHL or any other professional league and you'll find this is very minor heckling compared to the pro leagues. Gotta learn to handle themselves better it's not like they were 16 or 17 year old players either Desfosses is 20 and Poulin is 19 so their adults and you have to be accountable for your actions. Ah, I see. So what is the age it becomes a matter of just sucking it up? Is heckling cool at a game with 6-7 year olds? After all, they better learn to deal with it if they want to go anywhere, right? That's what your argument implies to me, and I hope you don't mean that. And I'm not against some jeers against the visiting team. I just know that some people can get out of hand when it comes to this sort of stuff and likely that's what happened with Desfosses. These guys can and are expected to take some crap from other teams fans, but there are limits. And my biggest issue with your comment was the joke about being classy, in discussing a teenage hockey players reaction to some heckling from someone likely twice his age. Ever hear the expression about the pot and the kettle?

Desfosses should be suspended, but Saint John should be fined. The fact that hecklers were allowed near the players AFTER the game shows a lack of security, which the team is responsible for. Actually, there was no fans leaning over the railing at all. They were all behind the railing, and their WAS security there. See, it's people like you that take the fun out of going to hockey games. You travel to the Quebec rinks, their is behavior WORSE than heckling going out, but, I suppose you just would rather sit on your hands and not say a word during the game. Once again, you sure do want to take the fun out of the game. Booing somebody takes them off their game, which Angelo didn't even have last night. But, once again, I suppose we should just sit on our hands all night and not do anything, and sip from our tea cups, and do the golf clap when something happens. Hell, why don't you stand at the bottom of your section with a big QUIET sign while play is under way? . If the fans were being hostile towards the players, or using vulgarity, then yes, I could understand them "flipping off" the fans, but they absoulutely were not. There was no need to do that, hell even the fat-ass old trainer took part in it too. Once again, you are WRONG. NO ONE touched Desfosses at all. He decided to be a jackass and swing his stick into the crowd and hit a young child. There is NO NEED of players swinging sticks into the crowd. Someone could get seriously injured. If the players can't take the heckling or being yelled at, then they should go back to mommy and daddy. They know what they are getting into when they join major junior hockey. Heckling takes place all over Canada, worse than what happens in Saint John, which is EXTREMELY minor heckling. You keep talking about disgraces in all of this, the only disgrace, I think, is you.

You call heckling fun? What are you, a gorilla? This is supposed to be a civilized culture. You can cheer all you want. And it doesn't matter if you boo (though singling Angelo out is hippocritical). Comparing the behavior of our bad fans to that of other teams' bad fans completely undermines the fact that heckling is wrong and should not occur at all. It is accepted as long as fans stay within a general boundary, but fans often overstep this, and insult the players. Also, if nothing happened to Desfosses, don't you think someone would have stopped him? Or that he wouldn't have swung his stick in the first place? Sounds like someone had a little too much liquid courage in him to remember things clearly... And to call me a disgrace because I think that sport is an event which should not be effected by those not competing in it (namely, trying to throw opponents off their game), shows how corrupt your view of sport must in fact be.

The Q is a part of Hockey Canada which strongly disagrees with heckling. Wrong. The Q is a division of the CHL which has no affiliation to Hockey Canada. They work together but are seperate in terms of partnership. For example the Q has a rule book that has rules against Hockey Canada.

Hey Rick, I have a question for you. You talk about sitting on your hands, taking fun out of the game, holding up a quiet sign, blah blah blah... what does that have to do with this? There is no one anywhere saying you can't cheer your team or jeer the opposition. Do it as loud as you want, the louder the better. Unfotunately we both know that there are always people who will take the comments to the opposition too far. I doubt that booing or some typical jeering made Desfosses swing his stick. Anyway, back to my question, I digress...
If you feel heckling (to use the term broadly) is a OK as it is a way to get the opposition off it's game, what exactly does that have to do with comments amde to Desfosses as he left the ice??? The game is over. No more throwing the opponent off his game. This is when it gets a little over the top for me. There's a thread about this very thing not long ago involving Travis Fullerton.
Anyway, I'd like your opinion on that. I really feel your comments about taking fun out of the game and no noise has nothing to do with the issue at hand. No one here is gonna complain about you if you want to cheer all night at the game.

Here's the thing these 2 guys that have been mentioned up to now are both adults Desfosses is 20 and Poulin is 19 so they don't get treated like a 16 or 17 year old teenager. Does anyone even know exactly what the kid was saying or was he just leaning over the rail I don't know what he or she for that matter said?

Yeah, I don't know what was said as I wasn't there, but surey something was said by someone to provoke that reaction.
So is that where your own line is drawn? 19 or 20 year olds you can say whatever disparaging comments you want, even after the game (when the outcome is in no doubt), but 17 and under you stay quiet? Just wondering...

I started the thread about heckling Fullerton, and I still feel the same way. Booing Espo every time he touches the puck is kinda funny, and a good time. It's also hockey-related, and it might get under his skin and throw him off (I doubt it since he and Grant shared a good laugh about it when he skated out to take the ceremonial face-off, bu it's fun nonetheless). Heckling players after the game is a fine line though. If you're not using profanity in a family area, and you're talking about hockey, I guess i can live with it. But to boo or heckle players 20 and under for non-hockey stuff is a little silly, no matter what the team.
I was nowhere near the tunnel for this incident, so I have no idea what was said, or how I'd feel about it. But I'm pretty sure there is no justification for swinging a stick and hitting a kid (accidentally, I'm sure), regardless of the parenting skills or drunkenness of anyone in the building. Any defense of the dude swinging his stick is weak.

Here's my opinion on heckling although I should maybe have it in the heckling thread ;D I think it's fine to a certain extent I do at times have my younger son who's 7 at games and certain things could be said at times that I would find offensive don't think there is a need to repeat them now we all know what they are. But if they are just yelling at the players then I don't see anything wrong with that it happens in every rink across the CHL. When I'm talking about adults as players I'm talking about the players that were mentioned before in the thread (Desfosses & Poulin) I can understand why younger players might react by flipping people off or whatever but these guys are veterans of this league and they come from the Telus Division which has rinks far worse then ours. But I don't even have that big of an issue with the flipping people off they may have been flipped off and just returned the favour I don't know what exactly happened but it just doesn't excuse a player from swinging his stick at anybody I know he likely never ment to hit a kid but the fact is that he did.

To all you POLITICALLY correct crybaby's out there "KISS MY ASS"!!!! This is hockey A SPORT!! not ballet, not the Opera and certainly not romper room!!! If you see or hear something you dint like feel free to point and say Johnny thats NOT how to act!!! This will not go away!!! Fans WILL heckle, scream, BOO "thank god" and have fun at games!!! When the uptight accountant types take over Canada's favorite past time I will stay home and watch!! I truly feel for the ownership group that continues to work their asses off to give you crybaby's a great entertainment experience only to be shot down at every angle!!! Are OUR fans at all QUEBEC games? Why are there so many incidents involving the Ramparts?? Think about that, if you are capable. I could go on and on about politically correct S.O.B's but I will stop for now and remember last nights great game memories only to be ruined by complainers after probably our biggest win EVER!!! TATA!!!

And what does this have to do with the pot and the kettle. The guy who was criticizing the players behaviour was NOT one of the hecklers. So how is he a hypocrite? And even if he was one of the hecklers, there is a world of difference between heckling and assaulting a young child with a weapon. Clearly logic is not one of your strengths.

As for people complaining about booing Esposito all I have to say is stop taking things so seriously. God! No one personally hates him. Its all in good fun. I'm sure he loves it. I certainly would.
