I agree with JBoyz that we should trade Brassard, Darcy and Nosella. My only other thought on tat subject is what would you even get or them. You would be trading a 20 year old goalie who is playing the shits,a 20 year old forward with potential who is also playing terribly and a marginal 19 year old defenceman who is marginal at best and might fit in somewhere as a 5th or 6th dman. Don't think you would get much return on these three.

Darcy could get you something but with better 20s it likely just for a 20 of a different type in return, like D or defensive forward.

Unless the team was giving up on this year, there is no way I would trade Darcy. At any level of hockey the cream rises to the top. Darcy is in a slump, as is the whole team. There have been some key injuries combined with some almost desperation coaching moves with the line juggling, etc. They have lost a lot of close games where they have outshot the competition. It's a long season, and this team will easily make the playoffs. Then the second season starts (playoffs). I believe this team only needs to make 2 or 3 changes at Christmas, without draining the draft bank. When this slump ends, and I'm sure it will, combined with a few changes the Eagles will soar in this league. If this team has any plans of progressing in this years playoffs, trading Cameron Darcy would be a mistake.

Are we providing reasons or excuses for the Eagles woeful results. As far as the line juggling goes, this is a Dumont specialty, he does it all the time whether he has a full lineup or not.As far as injuries go, every team has them. Baie-Comeau has played all year so far without their best forward, Jeremy Gregoire, Quebec lost Anthony Duclair, probably one of the best forwards in the league and their high end Euro did not report and up until just recently Rimouski has played with only 2 20 year olds.Take a look at where these teams are in the standings compared to where we are. Also we have bben hearing quite often that our defence is young? Compare our defence to that of Rimouski, we have 7 dmen who are 96 or 97 born, they have 6? Sounds like we are making excuses for our teams poor showing. IMO, our problems center around the coaching and the goaltending.

You expect a 20 year old goalie to steal a game for you once in a while. There , the only excuse I give them now. With the talent they have they have little excuses remaining. They have more talent than last year , yet they sit lower in the standings compared to last year. This team had an extra start in August in terms of the tournament in Russia yet you watch a few games and you really have to wonder. They are not clicking at all. When this situation arises the first thing I think of is to switch up the coaching staff. It is not always the right move but as you can see no troubleshooting is being done right now. The second would be to try to fix the problems. Goaltending , Defence , and bad character. Lack of character is poison on any team and by the sounds of it some guys that have high expectations are lacking on the spirited side. Kudos to Dumont as GM though. Or maybe not... This team is his making after all. Although the skill is there we only see it on paper... In terms of you mentioning them making the playoffs as a reason to not be concerned... All I have to say to that is it is not difficult to make the playoffs in this league. Only two teams miss the cut.

I think there is no doubt that Dumont realizes that he has to address the goaltending issue. I do not fault his decision to have started the season with Brassard, or to stick by him to some degree. Outside of this season he consistently had a save percentage above.90. I also believe that Brassard is a decent goalie but I highly doubt that he will regain his confidence in Cape Breton. Dumont could have gone after Whitney, but that doesn't cover next year. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see Guindon here at Christmas trading. But I think they will have to get a 20 dman plus a 19 dman. I also think they could use another 19 year old forward. The main purpose of my last reply was simply stating that I think some people are jumping too much on Cameron Darcy. He will come around. I think that with the addition of a goaltender, at least a 20 or 19 year old dman/men there will be significant difference. Once you start to get the key saves and the confidence comes back, it's a different ending. I think these other teams with young defence have at least one core 19 or 20 year old on defence.

Two things you mention screams dumb idea from the start, to go with 20yr old goalie on a team like CB, especially one you trade for. You mention trading for Whitney would not cover next year, then why Brassard. You mention most teams have 1 core 19 or 20 on D, then why Brassard. I know if my team went for a 20yr old goalie he would have to be a returning one that was either one of the best or a filler on a team going nowhere that year. It seems at this point Brassard meets the 2nd use, hope you can turn it around at Xmas, such a mess.

With all due respect, you state what I say screams dumb, after a few statements back you'd be willing to trade Darcy for what? So you toss out one of your top players for a 5th round or so. Dumont traded a 3rd and a 5th for Brassard. Well hindsight is nice, but he probably looked like a legitimate solution for Dumont at the time. I personally would have traded Darcy and Hache last year. Then at worst, we probably would have been looking at two solid 19's, maybe even a goalie, playing this year. Without the gamble on who was coming back. I also didn't say that all teams had at least one core 19 or 20 dman. I said that the teams with young dmen generally have at least one solid core 19 or 20 year old dman. I'm not so sure that Guindon is going to be the answer by himself, and I can't see that he alone would be worth Drummondville's 1st round pick, and I would assume that if Drummondville is looking to entertain any trades they would want their 1st round back. The only other options I can see would be Fucale, Booth, and Mcdonald. Will Fucale be back next year? I doubt they can get Booth out of Quebec with regard to educational reasons, and I highly doubt Charlottetown will trade McDonald.

I did not say trade Darcy, I simply responded to someone who wanted to trade them and another who asked what they would bring back. As far as Brassard goes, did you know Quebec traded him to CB and then got the 19 yr old Brassard. CB has missed out on younger ones to take on a 20yr old one when everyone keeps saying they need one to fit next year. IMO Poor planning to say the least.

Hindsight is 20/20.
They were interested in Cadorette and showed some interest in Auger but eventually gambled for the cheaper option. No irrational moves but rather playing it safe.
Too bad they did not take Brassard off of PEI's hands.
Personally , I was not expecting Brassard to be a star. I did however expect him to add stability to the crease and with him having something to prove after his crap play in last years playoff.
Oh well...

Hindsight is 20/20 when you make a good/logical decision and it does not work out. In this case the younger Brassard cost no more and was available. As you stated your Brassard played like crap yet it was playing it safe? I am sure other 19s could be had. He showed attitude, on top of being 20, gambled and it was a rational decision. If you give someone high praise for good trades and stocking up on picks you should be able to say when they lay a stinker. One that likely put your team behind and now needing to spend, just to hope, to turn it around. A 20yr old goalie could be picked up outside of the trade period so locking into a 20, unless proven, was gambling like Russian roulette.

I looked at the trade again and it does hurt a bit Quebec flipped the 3rd we sent for F Brassard for E Brassard without even using the extra 5th.
However , I think the asking price in CB's case would have been more (marginally ) than a 3rd considering PEI and CB are in the same division.
The other thing I want to mention after looking deeper into this is that their stats are comparable. There is nothing special about Eric Brassards stats at all. You can look at his wins but he is playing for a power house.

First of all let me say that I too am disappointed that the Eagles are not playing as well as hoped. That said, are things really as bad as some seem to think? We have a talented group of 16, 17, and 18 year old players. Lots of potential at all positions, ( except goaltender). We have some nice talent in midget and we have a pile of draft picks. We have a great base of players to grow with. What we are missing are quality 19 and 20 year old players, only Farrell is doing anything for us from that group, and a goaltender. Darcy was great for us last year but he must not of had any intention or expectation of coming back to Cape Breton as he can't seem to get it together. If we had a stronger group of 19 & 20 year olds we would be much better. So I wouldn't be too quick to call for major changes to our core. I wouldn't be giving up on our young players. We need to make some adjustments, add quality 19 if we can but don't sell the farm in panic conditions. That misery will last much longer then this season. As we have seen from the past.

Heard from a reliable source that Darcy in his wildest dreams did not expect to be back in junior and he is very disappointed in that. That being said, he is not doing himself or the team any favours by playing the way he is. He has to come to the realization that nobody is going to give him a pro contract,he is going to have to earn it. I'm sure Tampa is watching his progress(or lack thereof).

He needs a change in scenery. Both for himself and for the team. Maybe pull off a Laberge , Clendenning type trade.
Aw , the good old days when going to the rink was fun.
