Well ... why would a 19 YO be available? Because he wasn't good enough to be a #1 ? Sound familiar ? I'm not saying Rioux is the answer ... just saying that we don't have to look far for the calibre of goaltender you are talking about. If you look at some of the 19 year old FA goalies that have come to the Q, most are better than Rioux. Some of them were let go because teams wanted to give the #1 job to a younger guy and that guy did not want to be a back up. De Serres comes to mind. There are a few others... Ultimately, the Cats will probably have to decide what they are doing and possibly add a goalie at midseason. I expect tinkering when they need 3 pretty big pieces... You do get that feeling from Moncton that they will just make a couple smaller moves. I also just don't see the assets to be big buyers. I think you guys have an extra 1st but outside of that I'm don't know that teams are going to find your youth all that interesting... even talking futures with some teams would be rough as you're basically all American at the top end, may not work with some teams.

Julio Billia
Frederic Allard
Jonathan Bouncier
Chicoutimi will likely be seller. If we decide to be aggressive buyers,.. this is the trio I'd target.

Deserres was a 20 YO when he came to the Q ... he was at the Mem Cup the year before with Brandon. He was not a 19 YO FA. As I said ... I think you could find a 20 YO FA that could do the trick ... but why pay for Fortin if there were free options ?

Often the good options are only available once the season starts as OHL and WHL camps finish later. They did pay a high price for Fortin(4th rounder) for a guy that wasn't even in the Q at 19.

That price had a trigger depending on a certain amount of games played ... or was it just if he played a game in the regular season? Maybe we haven't hit the trigger yet and can cut our losses. We paid a 10th initially ... and it was to become a 4th at some point. He has dressed for all 18 games, but played in 12. We are probably past the trigger. When you think about it ... we paid a 4th for Fortin ... and got a 4th for Johnston. If we dump Fortin then we essentially get nothing for Johnston.

I think it turned into a 4th if he played in any games this year...basically if he made the team. qmjhleast.proboards.com/thread/21235/2015-qmjhl-entry-draft?page=6I think I read it in the paper right after the draft...

Just a quick look through the OHL ...
Our former draft pick Jack Flinn is a 20 YO on Mississaugua and they have 2 other goaltenders listed ... but only three 20s with Jack. Having a good start to the year with 2.42 and 0.920.
Jake Smith on North Bay Battalion ... 3 goaltenders listed ... 4 20 yo listed ... somebody has to go. Numbers not much better than Fortin's ... 3.17 and 0.890 in 12 GP, but has a decent history of good numbers.
Ken Appleby of Oshawa ... 4 goaltenders on their roster ... only 3 20s with Appleby ... he has not played a game yet and is apparently playing in the ECHL. Oshawa is getting solid goaltending from a 19 YO. Doubtful Appleby would clear OHL waivers if he returned as he has solid career numbers.
Interesting situation in Windsor ... they have 4 goaltenders on their roster and two of them are 20s ... 4 20s listed total. So they have to move one 20 out and obviously a goaltender will go. One guy (Garret Hughson) has played only one game and came in from WHL ... got a 28 save shutout in his only start ... had a good year last year with Spokane ... 2.80 and 0.902 in 53 GP. Michael Giugovaz seems to have bulk of work so far ... decent numbers 3.35 and 0.894 in 8 games.

And the WHL ... Keep in mind that I have no idea if these guys would become available.
Kootenay Ice ... Wyatt Hofflin ... 4 20 yos on roster ... only 2 goalies listed. Numbers are better than Fortin's.
Regina Pats ... Daniel Wapple ... only two goalies on roster ... 4 20 yos on roster. Solid career numbers for Wapple.

Vautour could an interesting option for the WCs and could be cheap. I don't see much to lose.....

He was placed on waivers by the Titan but went unclaimed. I think he was traded from Dieppe to another team in the MHL.
