Speaking of 20 year old goalies in the OHL, in truly Billy fashion, I'm going point out that Jack Flinn is playing tremendously in the OHL this season. I know we traded him for Barbashev(I believe) but couldn't we have gotten him off waivers after that? I think it would depend on the timing ... do you recall the dates he was dealt away and then became available ? Edit: We traded him to Sherbrooke on 2012-06-08 ... he played 18 games there in 2012-2013 (17 YO) and had 4.50 and 0.870 numbers. He then played in one game in the 2013 pre-season (August 17, 2013) Sherbrooke must have put him on waivers at some point before the start of the 2013-2014 season, and nobody in the Q claimed him. He then played 21 games for Owen Sound in 2013-2014 ... 4.01 and 0.894 ... as an 18 Y0. In 2012-2013 ... we had 18 YO Alex Dubeau so we weren't looking for a #1 goaltender, even though he was hot and cold that year. We did bring in several guys to audition for the backup role, and none were great. Waiver rules are unclear, but where we traded him in June 2012, back then he would not be able to return here until June 2015. I believe that rule has been reduced to 2 years now, so June 2014. By then he was OHL property. But my opinion on waivers is that if nobody else is claiming him, and his former team wants him back, the two or three year "boomerang" rule should not apply.

The one thing that is certain about waivers is that if you claim a player, you have to sign him to a card. So in August 2013, we had a few guys, plus Dubeau, in our camp that were trying to make the team, and had no need for Jack Flinn at that time. His previous year didn't actually make anybody want to make a claim on him.
