So has it been officially stated we are getting the New Haven team or a new franchise? I thought I read some confusing statement about that. Can't afford Season Tickets to both the Mooseheads and NLL.

So our team will already be established. They're actually pretty decent... they lost in the league finals last year to Saskatchewan.

Ahhh Rochester..what made me say New Haven?...thinking of the old AHL teams. Yeah I knew there was some story about the team in Rochester. So it is good to get an established team. I am a bit concerned if we can get the crowds we need to make a go at this. Looks like compared to the other teams we would almost have to get close to sell-outs to get close to what other teams draw.

Looks like compared to the other teams we would almost have to get close to sell-outs to get close to what other teams draw. This is a unique situation for Halifax. The only other experience with a legitimate pro league is the AHL, and while that survived for a while, ultimately didn't have the staying power needed and went away. The Saskatchewan market would be a good example of what Halifax can do. Saskatchewan is difficult to figure out. They have the smallest population of any NLL team, and have the highest average attendance. They have the smallest population of any CFL team, but have the 2nd highest average attendance. stats.cfldb.ca/league/cfl/attendance/2018/The Roughriders play out of Regina, and the Rush play out of Saskatoon. But I think the entire province embraces each team. That's the type of support Nova Scotia would have to give Halifax's pro teams to be successful. If done properly, I think Halifax can embrace both the NLL and the CFL. I'm sure the people with deep pockets have done their market research and feel Halifax can support the best indoor lacrosse league in the world. It's tough for us to predict how this will do, because world class sports leagues have never had a home here. Just have to hope it works out.

Wonder if the team will be named Halifax, or Nova Scotia? Also think theyd love to have fans from Moncton and what not.

I hope it's Halifax, although I want whatever gets the most people on board with this team. The "Atlantic" moniker for the CFL team leaves a sour taste. I don't think anyone from Moncton is going to be more of a fan of a CFL team in Halifax because they're called "Atlantic". I don't think that name invokes more a sense of pride than Nova Scotia or Halifax would.

Just in case anyone wanted to brush up on the goings on in the NLL, their entry draft was held last night. www.swarmitup.com/2018EDOrder.htmDawson Theede was drafted by Rochester in the 4th round. He's playing hockey with SMU currently. I guess we didn't quite meet our quota of former Titan playing sports in Halifax. Edit: The draft picks Lacrosse players from Junior A here in Canada (Up to 20 years of age like hockey), as well as players that have completed their NCAA US College career. Players that are too old for Canadian Jr. A, or that have completed their NCAA careers are automatically entered into the draft. Players playing for NCAA can renounce their NCAA eligibility and declare for the NLL draft early, but they can't be drafted while playing NCAA. www.nll.com/news/2018-19-nll-draft-renunciation-list/

The U.S college players almost all play sr mens in Canada as well. Good to finish college tho because they will need jobs here as well. The NLL dorsnt pay them enough yet. Like 30kish.

Yah there's a wiki document on the NLL that states the average salary is $19,135 as of 2013... can't find any updated numbers. The max salary for a franchise player is $34,000. The document says that many of the NLL players have full time jobs, which looks to be the reason why they hardly ever play on weekdays. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Lacrosse_LeagueThere is a $400,000 soft salary cap the team can spend on up to 20 players. There is a 25% tax applied over that $400,000 mark, and a 100% tax on anything over $475,000, which is shared among the other teams not over the cap. For those interested, you can purchase a webcast package for every NLL game for $51 + tax USD. tv.nlltv.com/2018-2019Yet another league making the Q webcast pricing look atrocious, although 18 games per team as opposed to 68.

Maybe. The article only says the NLL club has secured the name 'Privateers'. They also trademarked 'Halifax Highlanders' and 'Atlantic Highlanders'. I hope you're right, though. Halifax Privateers is a great name.

CEO of the new Halifax Lacrosse team was on the Rick Howe show. He stated they would need attendance of 6500 - 7500 to break even.

CEO of the new Halifax Lacrosse team was on the Rick Howe show. He stated they would need attendance of 6500 - 7500 to break even. That is doable considering it is only 9-10 games a year.
