Mooseheads weren’t winning jack shit this year anyways even with Dumais in the lineup. Talent wins in this league. Without Dumas you still have 2 of the leagues leading point getters. We all agree Dumais would be #1 if he played a regular schedule. Halifax would have had the leagues top 3 scorers if Dumais, Cataford, Vidicek played a 55 or so game schedule together. Halifax was going deep in round 3 at worst with a healthy lineup. Hell they may do that even without Dumais. Without Dumais this team is chalked even with him it wasnt looking good. Skill wins this for sure but depth plays a bigger part than skill ever will in the playoffs

Imagine what Dumais could/can do pain free.
It's insane to me that this kid could play and contribute at the highest level of Jr. Hockey on 2 wrecked hips and nursing a hernia, let alone set all time records and contribute for Team Canada.
Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Hoping for a speedy recovery. Yah I feel a little guilty harping on his skating when he had injuries to both hips and a hernia. He was probably in pain on every shift, which would explain his lack of celebrations. Also explains why he wasn't giving it 100% on the backcheck as well. I don't expect him back at all. Hopeful he can return for the playoffs but really, why have surgery now and risk a setback. I think Columbus is going to do whatever it takes to make sure Dumais is 100% for the start of their training camp next year. Definitely wish him the best of luck. I think most of us are a peace with where Halifax is in terms of caliber. A healthy Halifax lineup has the ability to make the 3rd round. They could also go out in the 2nd round against a motivated Wildcats team. They have a very entertaining lineup and the 2nd half will be fun to watch. I'm almost more at peace with them being a slight underdog than I would be with a healthy Dumais and if they went scorched earth all-in. Rousseau can steal a series so if they make the 3rd round you just never know.

Yea of course the Mooseheads had other pieces but those 2 guys made us the team we were. Obviously, it's a mix of both. But high end talent will win you a lot of games you probably shouldn't be winning.

Skill wins this for sure but depth plays a bigger part than skill ever will in the playoffs So many ways to interpret depth though. I don't think Halifax loses to a CB or Rimouski due to the higher end skill even though the lower seeds building for next year may have more depth in the bottom 6/bottom D pairing/goaltending. In the argument of Halifax vs B-C or RN...yeah depth comes into play. But thats also where a Dumais could be a difference maker all on his own because skill wins in the playoffs, not having a better 4th line or 3rd D pairing. Q playoffs come down to your stars executing in the big games way more then it does depth players making the difference like we see in the NHL playoffs so regularly. Halifax has depth. 2 top 5 scorers not named Dumais. A high end 20 in Reynolds. One of the leagues top Dmen in Furlong plus a solid top 4. And one of the leagues top goaltenders. Those top guys perform to their ability and its still a final 4 team without Dumais.

When people say depth...I think the edges of a lineup...most top contenders can role 3 experienced lines and a solid top 4 after xmas. And those guys determine whether the team is successful by their performance.

Dumais is "only" out 2-3 months so he could be back on the ice in the second round to suit up for the third round if they make it that far. Best case scenario I know but I feel obligated as an outsider to keep an eye on the Moose fans at the edge of the cliff. Don't mistake this for sympathy though. After 2020,I'll never feel bad for a CHL team or their fans. It’s fine, I’ll never feel bad for other teams fans either , especially Moncton fans.

When people say depth...I think the edges of a lineup...most top contenders can role 3 experienced lines and a solid top 4 after xmas. And those guys determine whether the team is successful by their performance. "Edges in a lineup" is a good way to put it. I think depth is relative to the level of competition. Compare Halifax to the other 18 teams in the league, and they have very good depth. Should Halifax make the 2nd round of the playoffs, and you compare Halifax to the 8 teams that are remaining, Halifax probably has average depth. Should Halifax make the 3rd round and you compare them to the teams that are remaining, and Halifax has very little depth. In the playoffs, a team loses because of one or a combination of three main reasons: Your top players didn't beat the other teams' top players, your depth didn't beat the other teams' depth, or your goaltending didn't beat the other teams' goaltending. If Halifax's top players beat the other teams' top players, and Rousseau outplays whoever he's playing again, Halifax has a good shot even if their depth disappears. It's nice to have that "depth by comparison", to pick up the slack. The Remparts had Justin Robidas as their 4th line center at times last year. He was able to slot up in the lineup when he needed to. In 2013 Halifax lost Nathan MacKinnon in February and the team went 15-0-1-0 without him. They had three forwards on their 3rd line at about a point per game average per player. Ciampini and Boudreau completely disappeared when the 3rd round started, and they were able to re-juggle their lines and still get production deep in the lineup. Examples of championship depth. By comparison, the 2024 Mooseheads don't have that. But they have three solid lines when healthy and the capability of going deep in the playoffs.

Rousseau ….that’s the key for the this season Yup. Losing Dumais obviously is devastating. But this team can still score goals. And lots of them. They're arent going to be able to go globetrotter like at times last season. They're going to have to be a bit of a lunch pail gang. But as long as Rousseau is healthy, this team can win it all. They were already behind BaC, Rouyn, Drum and Victo. This doesn't change that. Just solidifies it. All the best to Jordan. Hope he can recover and have a great career.

What sucks is we have to learn this from Quebec journalist and not the Mooseheads . Double hip surgery he won’t be back this year I assure that !!! Season over for the Moose this year although I wouldn’t rule out Dumais returning to junior next year maybe we can captilize on this as he would garner a good return . You can rule that out. He's not playing junior hockey as an overager under any circumstance next year. I don’t think it is inconceivable that he starts the year in the pros, struggles a bit, and is returned to junior at Xmas a la Gendron this year. Before the injury I had my doubts as to how well his game would translate to the pros … in my mind this increases the risk.

This has been a trying year for injuries almost every injury on this team has been major with 2 to 3 months recovery time if Halifax can come out of this and get by the second round of the playoffs it would be a major accomplishment. I think the key to Halifax success would be to develop a shut down third line that can score the odd goal a line of McPhee/Todd Denis and Macphee could potentially be that line !

People have a short memory so they must have forgotten that the Moose beat one of the best teams in Sherbrooke basically without Dumais last year so anything is possible with basically the same D core, goalie & Cataford/Vidicek back. One thing I learned last year was not to bet against these guys!
If I was a betting man, I would bet that Halifax is on the fence about possibly going all in next year and that’s why they didn’t sell the farm at this year’s trade deadline.
Here’s the potential team next year;
Rousseau Milner
Shultz MacKinnon Martin Phillips Mackenzie
Vidicek Cataford Sprynar Crosby Lévesque Kilfoil Fontaine
Losing: Furlong Dumais Reynolds Denis
Less “big pieces” to go get next year than this year imo.

You're right in that the size and style and translating it is definitely not helped by 2 bad hips. I just see the idea of what by September is a mostly healthy player being an option to play junior after so much dominance. I think no matter what after 2+ppg consistency they're going to want to work with him off the ice as much as on the ice after this surgery. He's a case where ECHL vs men for half a season might even make sense while he rebuilds strength.
